Getting This Done!!

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

I'm 30 in a few days and have finally Made the decision to get banded! Nothing is gonna change that.

I'm 6'3" and 160kgs(353lbs) living in South Africa I cannot wait to be banded! My wife has made an appointment for me for next week with my GP! I love her!! Going to go discuss my options an plan it's such a relief to make this decision. . I have a strong need for this. I have been at 40+ BMI since I was 14 and although it hasn't got super out of control I have tried everything under the sun!

Now is my time to shine!

Bring on the Band I say!!

It's so great to have an awesome forum like this. I love technology!!

I love my wife to pieces, for being supportive, not sure she knows exactly what it's gonna be like after my surgery, but I know that she will love an support me. Not many people have nearly close to that kind of support.

Reading the forums I am so jealous of all the loses!!

It's gonna be the 2nd most amazing day of my life, after my marriage.

I will keep you all posted as the next few months unravel, and after surgery.

Thanks All

So looking forward to Monday Afternoon! Little nervous of what the doc may say. hoping that he doesn't say no, or some other negative response.

I am busy planning my strategy and discussing options of when to have it done. it's her b-day on the 17th Jan and i would like to do the surgery after so not to interrupt any celebrations.

She however wants me to do it before. like as soon as possible at the beginning of the year. so she can look after me :-) So i will need to take this into account.

She's a Teacher (south africa) so our school year is different to the States & UK. but she will still be on holiday until +-16th Jan. Really appreciate all her support.

I Will let you all know what the doc says,

Good Luck! And Please keep us posted. It's exciting for all of us because we were all in the place you are now. And if we had to do it again, we'd still make this decision.

Leaving in a few minutes for the Docs office. I am hoping that he will be supportive, and point me in the right direction.

Would be awesome to meet the surgeon today too, but that is unlikely.

I am not sure if i am nervous, i know for one thing, i am VERY excited!!

Bring on the Band!!

Oh, I'm sorry about that! It will work out some how.

I wanted lapband 5 yrs ago and never knew it could happen. Insurance didn't pay & I didn't have the money.

But the beginning of this year I had a bad auto accident and after mths of therapy and still in agony and thought I'd check again with insurance and sure enough they pay now.

After 6mths of hoop jumping, I was banded 1wk ago.

So there's always hope!

Where are you in S.Africa? I spent 3 wks in Botswana.

Sometimes we appreciate things when we have to work harder for it!!

I know. Getting the band wasnt really hard for me so i had to build that appreciation an know not to take it for granted

Enjoy the journey an remember its a learning process

I wish you the best!!!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
