The Surgery

Recommended Posts

Hi All,

My surgery is on the 25th of October... soon!! I don't like the fact that I won't be in control at all... And that I will be naked on the table.... It's really bothering me. I know they are professionals and they have done it a thousand times but that doesn't make me feel better. I mean part of the reason we all get this surgery is bc we hate our bodies, right? Now I'm gonna be all exposed. Ugh. I guess I just have to deal with it but I don't like it at all.

My surgery was last year Oct 25th! Don't let the nakedness bother you! It's all part of the game, plus that is a small price to pay for such a great opportunity. Focus focus focus. Meditate on what's to come after surgery. Great things ahead of you:)

These surgeons do this because they want to help people. The state we've let our bodies get into is horribly sad for all of us, and my surgeon has told me that he LOVES the personal gratification he gets from saving someone's life every single day!

Thanks Joel... You're right. It is a small price to pay. Thanks.

I agree... It's embarrassing to think we'll be lying there naked for them to see us like that. I had ankle ligament replacement about 10 yrs ago... And when i woke up, I sat up quickly and the nurse said, "Oh honey, those doctors never put the gowns back on correctly"... I couldn't speak because I had been tubed during the surgery and had just woken up... But I was mortified. Why had my gown been removed for ankle surgery??? I don't know!!! And I had a hot Doogie Houser doctor who worked on mostly athletes... But he was completely professional... Never looked at me differently or treated me differently. I know he had to think i was yuck! But he never made me feel bad. What kind of person would do that anyway? You certainly wouldn't want that for your doctor, right?!?!

This surgery is different. They are there to help overweight people! Not to judge! I wouldn't stress about it. It'll be over before you know it and you'll never have to face that weight or body again... You'll be healthier, happier, and even more beautiful than you already are.

Don't even sweat it... You're gonna look back and laugh a few months from now. Just think of having a baby... that's gotta be way worse, right? This is nothing!

You got this!!!

OMG, I've never even thought about this until this thread and I had my surgery 4 months ago, yup I was butt naked. My doctor is cute too but you know he told me, he loves helping people and his greatest gift is seeing results, seeing us happy and healthy for the first time in our lives. I told him this last week when I went in for a fill, "thank you for saving my life, I was dying a slow death and eating myself to death". He just smiled, patted me on the knee and said "you just gave me the greatest gift, that's why I love this job".

I can remember being rolled into OR and all those people in there, mostly women and the last thing I said, of course I was loopy, I said "are ya'll nervous", bahahaha and I was out! Don't sweat it, it's a small price to pay for the big picture, your life, healthy and happy. I'll keep you in my prayers.

You might technically be naked but all except the parts that they are working on will be covered.

You are not naked when you get on the OR table and you are not naked when you wake up in recovery, that is all you need to know. (I kept my undies on and they were on properly when I woke up so pretty sure they stayed on)

Good grief! All shame left me after I had my daughter 21 years ago! After having numerous people over the course of three baby deliveries staring straight into the original man cave, I have nothing more to lose!

These posts are cracking me up! I didn't even think about that until you all are talking about it and I was banded on Oct 4th! My surgery was done robotically and so I was too busy checking that out when they wheeled me in the surgery suite!

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
