Being in a different time zone has it's advantages.

On the1 hand I miss out on all the fun

but

on the other I don't get to jump in early and make a fool of myself!

Seems to me that the sugar withdrawals have a negative effect on some, more so than others.

Dear Lord' date=' how in the world does sharing facts make this a clique? And why the hostility?

I have a theory. People who are *that* defensive without cause it's due to their own insecurities. It's not my job to placate people, sooth their wounded egos, or tell people what they want to hear. In fact, it's not my "job" to be here at all, I'm here to simply offer support and share information. I see entirely too many under-educated people walking around with bands, clueless, then wonder why they don't lose weight or worse end up with avoidable complications. I'm simply trying to educate.

This is a forum btw, not a blog. If you don't want or can't handle responses to your posts, then get a blog, but here you better expect responses.

One small piece of advice- just because you don't agree with something doesn't make it untrue. There is a big difference between medical fact and anecdotal evidence. I highly suggest you learn the difference.

...please excuse me while I join the other clueless people in the clique. ;)[/quote']

I have even stopped creating threads due to your rude comments

Some people are too self important to realize that just because you think they are a total jack hole , it doesn't mean that you're uneducated . I don't think you need a dictionary.....maybe ask for some "know it all" repellent ;)

I find it amazing that Alex asked people to stop behaving and commenting the way that they were yet it is still carrying on. Time for us all to start acting our age not our shoe size!

*laughs* Rude? I'm sorry you confuse honesty and facts with rudeness.

Perhaps a dictionary might be good item to add your Christmas wish list. <img src='http://www.bariatricpal.com/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=';)' />

Mis73 I usually find your posts to be the most informative and helpful. I am 23 so I guess I'm one of the young ones, but I truly gain the most from your posts. So thank you.

omg you guys are too funny!!! i am newly banded and new to this site....and i have to say...everyone has been very helpful and knowledgable. with that being said....everyone is different, what works for one,may not work for someone else.

i have asked my fellow bandsters on here a million questions and its funny to see the wide variety of answers,BUT,thats because every surgeon has a different approach.

so....i listen to all the advice, but at the end of the day,you gotta find what works for YOU.

There is something that I would like to add and hopefully this is sensible and not just more trying to have the last word.

SOMETIMES THE MARKETING AND THE REALITY ARE DIFFERENT

When I was first banded I was told that the band would prevent me from eating too much. I was told that overeating would make me sick but it was also noted in several places that vomiting was not normal.

What I discovered was that if I attempted to overeat I would be very uncomfortable. That sometimes it was not possible to tell what was enough and what was too much until it was too late. I also found that I quite often got a very full uncomfortable feeling in my throat that felt as though food was sitting there although apparently this is a referred sensation from pressure on the vagus nerve. I didn't like any of these sensations and for me they were not what I had been told that eating after being banded would be like but I was banded, it was working and if that was the reality then so be it. It would have just been nice if the Drs had given a more accurate picture. Also that was back in the old days when we were told that the food sits in your pouch and only moves through the stoma really slowly.

The new line that is being spun is actually quite hard to swallow ( excuse the pun). The way it is stated it actually sounds like a cross between utopia and/or the band doing nothing. I am still not sure which it is.

The bottom line is that you are not supposed to be so tight that you have a huge list of things that you cannot eat, but you should be able to get sufficient feedback from your band that you know that it is working. If you don't then the whole thing is rather pointless.

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
