I wouldn't worry. Your diet has changed so durastically, it may take a while for your bowels to catch up. I used to work with a couple GI Specialists and their theory was "normal" could be 3 times a day, or once every 7 days. For me personally, I think it was about 3 days post-op before things were...uh...normal again.

The only concern would be for a post-op ileus, which would lead to a bowel obstruction (seriously, this is the worst-case scenario) which can sometimes be caused by anesthesia - your stomach and bowels "go to sleep" and forget to wake up for a while. I had one once after I had my appendix out, no fun at all. But, unless you're totally unable to keep liquids down, it's unlikely.

The doctor told me that it was totally normal and that I'd likely need a laxative. I had surgery yesterday and will likely use a laxative this weekend.

If you are taking any narcotic pain medications, that will constipate you. Please make sure to drink your fluids and walk. You can probably ask your surgeon for Miralax, which can be added to Water or juice.< /p>

Just don't let yourself get constipated! It is terrible, believe me. That was a newbie issue I had to deal with.

You are eating a lot less now so you will not go like clockwork! You need to take supplements as you do not have the Fiber intake you used to and you are taking in a lot more Protein. Drink lots of Water and look at adding a powder Fiber to your drinks. I also take a stool softener each day and if I do not have a normal movement every 3-4 days, I take Senacot (a natural laxative).

Good luck!

I couldn't go either, dr said that was common for it too take a few days to get everything moving. I was shopping with the family and my daughter nonchalantly hit me in the stomach to get my attention to look at something. I thought I was going to pass out it hurt so bad, but then I had to run to the bathroom. She literally knocked the s*** out of me!

Well if you're on Clear Liquids your there is nothing in there. I would say I was about 5 or six days post op before I went but then again I took a laxative the day before and was pretty empty going in.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
