Please Help Me Understand Post Op Diet Rules Normal Diet Importance Of Carbs & Cals

I know that most people are able to go movie nutritionist at their surgeon but I have my surgery & it's a little harder for me with the follow up

so I can use your advice please

what is your post op diet like a regular food do you count carbs and calories if so how many carbohydrates and how many calories do you allow yourself the day I've been eating Lean Cuisine meals but they seem to be low in calories and carbs

but I'm eating them for the portion sizes

because although I just got my first fill of 5CC in a 10 cc band I feel no restrictions. very concerned about my diet and weight loss so far because its been slow so I'm not sure I'm getting the right amount of carbs or calories and I'm hungry all the time.... thank you for your input :)

RhondaMarie, that is exactly where I was. It was really hard for me to get used to not eating at normal times. It took me 4 months to get it through my head every time I saw my NUT as she kept telling me "only eat when you are hungry." she said to quit counting the Protein as I was drinking it down, because I was never hungry! She said eat the right food, protein first and only when I am hungry. It was slow at first until my brain caught up with me. I had a stall at four months out until I listened to her and now I am losing 3 lbs a week and still not hungry. A glass of lite choc soy milk on my way to work as I don't drink coffee and two meals. Tons of Water, a glass of it with me where ever I go!

I agree with others. Everyone is different and each NUT/surgeon has different programs. In the beginning I thought I was doing the right thing by following everyone else's lead, but it wasn't working for me.

You need to constantly work with your WLS team. That is what they are there for and that is what you are paying them for!

I am definitely following the post op plan my team has mapped out for immediately after surgery. I can see that my progression thru the stages is way slower than most & that's OK. I will meet with the NUT in November for my personal specific diet.

I just know when I plateaued last time, upping my intake gave me that boost.

I can't even drink a whole Protein shake in less than 2 hrs.

I had about .75 pkg of oatmeal this morning, less than a .5 cup of Soup for lunch, half a serving of almonds & I made myself finish 5 oz of tuna over 2 hrs. Even counting Gatorade, coffee & creamer ... I am barely over 400 calories.

I guess the most important thing is that I am eating the right foods. I am not going to drink a milkshake or have ice cream for the sake of calories.

I do need to get some greek yogurt in the house tho. That's a good thing.... I just didn't have it b/c is was a no no on the pre-op diet.

Sounds like you are doing good! I have heard others say that we may not be eating enough. That's why I say get with your NUT. Keep up the good work and hopefully it will all catch up.
