How much weight did you lose before being banded? Is there a certain amount of weight we're suppose to lose?

My insurance liked to see a certain percentage of weight loss. Can't remember what percent but was about 15 pounds. I lost 31 pounds on the 6 month preop diet. I think they just like to see that the patient is making positive life changes

I had a problem that my nutritionist didn't want me to lose a lot of weight & PCP did. I drew a line down the middle and lost 24lbs in the 6mths. Once my insurance was approved I switched to some LB rules like Protein first, small bites, putting my fork down for one minute between bites, smaller portions, chew 30 times and have lost a total 34lbs and surgery is still 15days away.

I hope adjusting to band life will be easier!

Best to you on your journey!

I didn't have to do Protein Shake diet, but I have them occasionally to prepare for post-op. They're great for quick grab & go Breakfast.< /p>

I didn't start the Liquid Protein diet until 2 weeks before my surgery, so that was already after I was approved for my surgery by insurance, so there was no real expectation of what I should lose. I got weighed morning of surgery and I think lost 9 pounds??

My doctor told me to lose 7 to 10 lbs in the two weeks before surgery

I was only required to do the 2 weeks Protein and there was no emphasis on weight loss it was just going in with a healthy liver and the will power to do it. I lost 9lbs on the 2 week liquid diet and 10 lbs from surgery to 1 week post op, I think I have gained 2-3 lbs back now that I am eating more that I was immediatly post op. I am sure that my body is in starvation mode and just hanging onto everything right now. But I am upping my calories and Protein daily and start mushies on Wed - yippee.

Good luck with your surgery.

I was just wondering about everyone's progress. I am having the hardest time finding a Protein shake/drink that I can stomach. They either make me nauseous or the taste is disgusting. I don't know what to do.....

I have the same problem, went back to Optifast, that I did for presurgery. Once I can chew my Protein, I should be good.

I had to do Optifast for 2 weeks prior to surgery

I lost 20 lbs

I was not on a diet prior because I was self pay

(crummy insurance)

Now I'm 8 days post op and haven't lost any more :-(

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
