September 29, 201213 yr How much weight did you lose before being banded? Is there a certain amount of weight we're suppose to lose?
September 29, 201213 yr My insurance liked to see a certain percentage of weight loss. Can't remember what percent but was about 15 pounds. I lost 31 pounds on the 6 month preop diet. I think they just like to see that the patient is making positive life changes
September 29, 201213 yr I had a problem that my nutritionist didn't want me to lose a lot of weight & PCP did. I drew a line down the middle and lost 24lbs in the 6mths. Once my insurance was approved I switched to some LB rules like protein first, small bites, putting my fork down for one minute between bites, smaller portions, chew 30 times and have lost a total 34lbs and surgery is still 15days away. I hope adjusting to band life will be easier! Best to you on your journey!
September 29, 201213 yr Author How much weight were you expected to lose one the protein shake diet too?
September 29, 201213 yr I didn't have to do protein shake diet, but I have them occasionally to prepare for post-op. They're great for quick grab & go breakfast.
September 29, 201213 yr I didn't start the liquid protein diet until 2 weeks before my surgery, so that was already after I was approved for my surgery by insurance, so there was no real expectation of what I should lose. I got weighed morning of surgery and I think lost 9 pounds??
September 29, 201213 yr How much weight were you expected to lose one the Protein shake diet too? My doctor told me to lose 7 to 10 lbs in the two weeks before surgery
September 29, 201213 yr And yeah, protein shakes really are a nice quickie meal to have. I like muscle milk light or Bariatric fusion.
September 29, 201213 yr I was only required to do the 2 weeks Protein and there was no emphasis on weight loss it was just going in with a healthy liver and the will power to do it. I lost 9lbs on the 2 week liquid diet and 10 lbs from surgery to 1 week post op, I think I have gained 2-3 lbs back now that I am eating more that I was immediatly post op. I am sure that my body is in starvation mode and just hanging onto everything right now. But I am upping my calories and protein daily and start mushies on Wed - yippee. Good luck with your surgery.
September 29, 201213 yr Author I was just wondering about everyone's progress. I am having the hardest time finding a protein shake/drink that I can stomach. They either make me nauseous or the taste is disgusting. I don't know what to do.....
September 29, 201213 yr I have the same problem, went back to optifast, that I did for presurgery. Once I can chew my protein, I should be good.

September 29, 201213 yr I had to do optifast for 2 weeks prior to surgery I lost 20 lbs I was not on a diet prior because I was self pay (crummy insurance) Now I'm 8 days post op and haven't lost any more :-(
September 29, 201213 yr I had to do a two week pre OP diet having a shake for breakfast and lunch and either a lean cuisine or shake for dinner and I lost 20lbs.. the best shakes are the Premier Protein chocolate shakes from Costco! They Taste like chocolate milk! I've been drinking these Protein Shakes for a year now and still love them.. They are 30g of protein per shake, and the lowest sugar carbs and calories shakes I've found!
