50 Lbs Down In 4.5 Months - Suddenly Super Depressed

Recommended Posts

I was banded 05/11/2012, and have lost 50 lbs as of today... While I KNOW that's a huge accomplishment which I've worked very hard to achieve... I'm suddenly... depressed? I know that sounds crazy, when I should be throwing myself a party and being super stoked about it, but I guess when I looked at the ticker and saw I still have 80 more lbs to go before I'm at my goal.... it was frustrating to see I wasn't even 1/2 way there!

I'm working so hard - making sure I eat correctly, take my time, add in more exercise, stop making excuses for myself and have realistic goals. If you had asked me a year ago if I'd be down 50 lbs by now, I probably would have laughed at you (then thrown something, cried, drank some wine, and hated you forever!).

Now? It seems that rather than be proud of myself for how far I've come, I'm fixated on how far I have to go.

Ho-hum.

You need to ask where you'd be if you hadn't been banded. I've been banded for 7.5 months and I haven't quite lost 50 yet, but I'm thrilled because the numbers are still going down and not up!!!

Yep, as long as the scale is going in the right direction. How long did it take you to get 130 lbs over weight? Probably years right? Give yourself a while to take it off. It will happen. You're doing everything right and before you know it you'll be at goal.

I find that sometimes to get myself out of a funk I have to reach out and encourage others. It makes you feel good that you made someone else feel good. Find someone on this forum and lift their spirits, I guarantee you'll feel better.

Best Wishes on your journey!

Depression is a serious thing. You may need some counseling to help you through this. You are changing your body, mind and spirit. Sometimes we all need a little help to accept changes. I did 3 years and it helped me so much.

I am with Cheri,

I have depression and have also been in AA for years. I would think most of us used food for comfort like an alcoholic uses alcohol. Now without the food, you may find yourself without the thing you turned to for years. I know that was part of my problem, when I got sober I started using food..then when I was banded I had to deal with other core issues & face why I over-indulge in everything. It might be time to talk with someone or see a doctor. I know I could not pull myself out of depression, I needed help. You are not alone. :) Patty

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
