May 2006 Band Crew

Recommended Posts

Wow! What an experience! I had my pre-op on Friday with the blood work, chest x-ray, and other stuff. And let me tell you about the experience. The entire staff at the hospital made me feel soooo good about doing this surgery! I have always felt judged and scrutinized by the medical profession for my obesity. This staff has obviously been trained and it was a blessing to be their care just for the testing. My dietition was fabulous and once again no critical or condesending tones or accusatory language. If all doctors and their staff could be this nice...I'm anxious for the next week and a half to go by, the 18th is my date. I am a working woman and sometimes dread going back to work on Monday, but I'm excited because I know that working will get me to the Band-date faster! Congrats to all who have been banded this month to date and best wishes to all this week! Here's hoping for quick and speedy recoveries for everyone!

Hi everyone. I'm super new to all this. Looks like my stats are pretty close to TXPeach...I'm 5'5 with low BMI (35) and am going in for band soon. Have appt. 5/22 and surgery date 6/5...but think I'll try to move it up (am self-pay ...so hopefully I can get earlier date...am hoping to move next appt. to Monday, 5/15 and surgery to 5/22).

Am in Temecula, CA area and getting banded by Dr. Owens (Coastal Obesity) in OC.

Has anyone been able to start little bits of exercise yet? How soon is too soon? I can't wait to end this ridiculous struggle with weight! I run a business and hope a lighter, healthier lifestyle will help the professional image -- I want to get rid of the "fat suits!"

Blessings to you all!

Hi meedym

We do have about the same stats. I'm a little over 5'5. I've always said 5'6'', but recently found out otherwise. lol. Reality hurts. I'm one week post band. I lost about 10 pounds on the preop diet and am still going downward! I don't feel quite ready to exercise, but I'm looking forward to it. I also run my own business. This weight has been the one obstacle in my life that I can't seem to overcome. There's no stopping me now! Watch out world!

Hey Peach! You might find you get your height back when you lose weight. A couple of years ago, a woman I worked with had bypass surgery. She ended up with smaller shoes, and gained one inch in height.

Hi Deb,

I lost 10 pounds prebanding and I don't really know how many since. My scale isn't accurate, so I'm waiting until my postop visit w/ the Dr. I know the scale is moving downward, though. I will be glad when the swelling is down. Don't be nervous. After the first week you'll be so glad you did it. You'll have a new tool to help you control what has been controlling you! Good luck! We can do this!

Hello -- I'm new to this board and I was banded on May 1st. I like this thread because so many people are going thru the process the same time as I.

One week post-op and I feel good. I mean REALLY GOOD! I'm not sure how much I've lost since I don't trust my home scale, so I just took a guess at what my weight is now. I know I've lost quite a bit....I can feel it in my clothes. But who wouldn't on just liquids? ! I'm finally drinking Soup and protien drinks and I think that's why I feel so much better.

For those that have just had surgery, my biggest downer was only eating broth and Jello. Yuck! How can you not get depressed eating just that? I counted the HOURS till I was able to get off that "diet".

The big three keys to weightloss according to my dr. was get your protien (Check!) Exercise EVERY DAY (Check!) and drink at least 64 oz. of Water every day (Check!!!!) I'm trying very hard to stick with it and right now it's not hard since I took vacation for my surgery and haven't been back to work (go back dayshift on Friday).

But I must say, so far, so good!

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
