Anyone Going Through Illinois Bariatric Center??

Recommended Posts

It wasnt until the 3rd or 4th fill before I felt any sort of restriction. I was scared the first time I was filled, but seriously I never even feel it. I just had a little bit taken out by Dr Sid on the 10th.

Since surgery I have lost 51 pounds and lost 29 during the amount of time I was waiting for my surgery. I lost 15 before I was approved for insurance and the other 14 on the pre-op diet. So altogether since December of last year I have lost 80 pounds. I didn't do any type of weight watchers program or anything like that, I just tried to eat less and better. I followed the pre-op diet to a T and did not cheat AT ALL when I was on it. I have had a few weeks here and there where I haven't lost any weight at all, but I try not to get discouraged because there are some weeks where I lose 5-10 pounds. It really just comes and goes for me. I felt restriction after my very first fill, and in fact I only have about 3.5 cc's in my band and I am happy with how it is going. Of course I would like to be down more than 80 pounds, but I am happy with being half way to my goal after less than 10 months from starting this journey. :)

Hi everyone, I am having surgery on Nov 13th at the Champaign office. I am a little nervous. I live In Mattoon. It didn't take long for me to get approved at all. First talk was on Sept 17, then the 3 appointments in one day on Sept 25. I go on Oct 30 for pre opp appointment. It is all going fast.

For some reason this thread stopped giving me reminders so I am sorry I missed the question about fills. I think I got fills every other month for a few months but really have only gotten 4 or 5 in the first year. All of them were extremely small because my body had trouble accepting a lot at once. At this point, I am down 91 lbs since surgery and 120 together with the Pre-Op diet. I do try to attend the monthly support group meetings in Champaign, and I find them extremely helpful and motivating. Everyone is so nice, and it is great to be able to get together and hear everyone's experiences. How is everyone doing lately?

I'm currently doing my process with the Illinois Baratric Center. I gotta say I'm really impressed with there staff and everyone is awesome! I'll be getting my surgery in Champaign also. Just got done with my 3 in 1 appointment today and now its a waiting game for a few weeks with insurance and paperwork.

Yay that is exciting! Congratulations on getting one step closer. I am definitely glad that I chose to do the surgery and that I chose to have it where I did. I couldn't be happier with the IBC! I also love their support group meetings on the first Thursday of the month. I feel like it really helps be stay on track, especially when I get discouraged.

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
