How Have You Changed Since Lap Band Surgery?

Recommended Posts

I think I have changed after my surgery in the area of believing in myself before I lost hope and just ate and ate and stop caring (so the bigger I got)

now I care because I believe in me now.

what about you?

I have a positive outlook on life and everything I do. I am not longer a pessimist. I have a drive in me that I love and I am determined to accomplish anything I put my mind to.

I know that if I was able to lose all that weight and become a health nut, I can achieve anything.

I've changed in my attitude towards myself ~ I was my own worst enemy.

I've learned discipline and hard work as well as self value.

I control my food; it no longer controls me.

My entire life has changed. I feel like I'm finally starting to live life rather than just sit and watch it pass me by.

I actually see value in myself. I no longer think and dream about "if" I lose the weight, now it's WHEN I lose the weight.

I'm happier than I've ever been in my adult life.

I feel like there is hope for me to lose weight once and for all. And I feel a lot more confident.

I feel a bit more confident than before. I'm in the beginning stages so I'm sure I will be a lot more confident soon enough. I'm learning not to rush and enjoy the small non scale victories. I'm working on making better food choices and I have cut out sugary drinks completely.

Good topic!

I feel a renewed sense of self. It has been YEARS since I have been motivated to exercise, eat healthy, etc. I, honestly, have just fallen into that pattern now by going through with this procedure. It has renewed my belief in myself and given me a new excitement about what tomorrow brings. I am no longer going through the motions, I am steering my life forward to healthier, happier days.

On a physical side, I am one of the most squeemish people I know. I don't know how I got there but I have issues eating foods of certain textures/smells, etc. I wouldn't eat turkey, seafood, rarely eat pork (other than ham), etc. I am amazed that knowing they are healthy for me and my options (by cutting off junk food) are streamlined... I need to venture out more. I bought salmon last week and enjoyed it and had turkey meatloaf with cauliflower mash on the side for lunch today. I even LIKED it. My kids and fiance are shocked that my taste buds are changing and I am able to try foods I would have never touched! For me this is a HUGE win!!! My daughter, who is away at college, said she has to see it to believe it ~ LOL.

I LOVE MY NEW BANDED LIFE! Congrats to everyone for the changes they, too, have made.

I dont think I have changed at all. I was a happy fat person. I had a healthy marriage, wonderful family and terrific job. I just wasnt happy about being fat. LOL I suppose the only thing that changed is that now I take more care of me .... I put myself first for the first time in my adult life. Its sounds selfish but its a change I had to make in order to take care of me.

i think i care more and i want to make myself look and feel better i am tired of being the fattest girl around and now i have some more confidence in myself... i still have a long way to go as new things are popping up that i am not used to dealing with... like more attention from people... but i am actually taking care of myself for once in my life and not letting the days go by without at least walking to keep myself moving

I am back to enjoying myself! I know that my weight loss is under my control! Before lapband, I would try to lose and get bored and gain whatever I lost back. Now, I know, that even any weight gain or loss is within my control! Karen

Every day I feel a little more accomplished. I'm learning as I go and know that I will never be larger than I am today as long as I work with the band.

It's kinda weird for me. At my heaviest I was real confident and really didn't care what people thought about how I looked. Now I'm always covered up because of how much attention I'm getting because of my weight loss.

My personality hasn't changed. I'm still very sarcastic and immature at times around close friends but I noticed I'm distant around a lot of people.

Somewhere along the line I lost hope. Without hope even the most beautiful things in my life -places, people, moments, etc. became dulled and underappreciated. Today I have hope!! And, I'm finding more and more ways to express the abundance of gratitude I feel. Hope... I can't believe I ever lost it, but I did. I pray I never forget how close I came to undervaluing all the blessings in my life.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
