A thread for super-sized bandsters - starting BMI over 50?

We need a place where we can support each other through our "more than most" journey. Just as turtles don't get much out of hearing us talking about fast we're losing, maybe it would give us a nice break from "I'm getting banded because I need to lose 60 lbs".

I think we have our own unique challenges, expectations, baggage, etc. -- and we need our own little niche to support eachother. We all have a very long journey ahead of us, and need to band together. :)

Oh my gosh am I ever touched that you guys wrote to me with your help and suggestions cuz I really feel like I failed and that I am falling apart.
You need to seek emotional help. The surgeon who performed my surgery had an emotional support group that I went to once before surgery and many times after surgery.

In my book, there are only two kinds of people: Those seeing a mental health professional and those who should be seeing a mental health professional. Seek out help. I do not know if there are 12 steps groups like CoDependents Anonymous or such in your area and I don't know enough about you to know which 12 step program might be most appropriate, but please seek help.

You are not a failure and you did not waste $16,000.

You are depressed. Many of us are depressed after such a life altering event as Lap-Band surgery. It is as if we just went to a funeral for our best friend. We have just lost our life long companion: food.

I hope you are not offended by my insistence that you get emotional help. Many people equate the need for emotional help with pictures of asylums. There is much stigma placed on mental help by some people. That is their mental problem.

Please take care of yourself. Things can only get better. Some day you will look back at this and laugh.

Dear Tired Old man..I wish you would change you addy to old guy who is upbeat and incredibly supportive. Want to hear something funny? I am a mental health professional........isnt this like physician heal thyself??? I am also seeing a shrink and have since sept ......seems like so many isssues coming up and food is not a big deal to her, I don't think she gets it. I have worked with her and respect her immensly, infact she was the one who told me about this surgery that one of her patients had already had.

lap bandit thanks, and wow, 100 lbs in 7 months is amazing. I am failing already and have soo much to lose and am hungry all the time. Starting again, yes will try but with messing up so soon I am very worried I can't do this.

hang in there! when i went to my 1st follow up and was switched to mushies after 4 wks of liquids, my nutritioninst said that many people do not follow the diet to the tee, i had baked potato and ice cream (1x ea) but she said to try your best and start each day new! you can do it! i reallu liked low fat chive and toasted onion cottage cheese whipped and even added taco bell sauce to reg whipped cott cheese for a mexican flavor, you may find it's flavors, not food you crave so add spices to things to give yourself some variety!

thanks, so chives with cottage cheese? that is somethign you can buy? maybe a baked a potaoo sounds good, I could mush that up right? put natural yogurt on it???? Imean I am finished full fluids technically thursday but Ima hungry and have to eat something and I know as I ate already and no problem with it. so Iam trying today but man I am getting soo tempted...... if any of you left the diet early,,what could/did you eat with no problems. I do not get my first fill til sept ( later) then in oct for second and third.

The first month was hell for me. It was a really emotional time and I fought a lot of those "I'm already screwing up" demons. Once life settles down a little and you get more used to your new belly things will get easier! You just gotta find your groove!

kimmason - yes you can but it it's made by hood and it;s lowfat cottage chese with chives and toasted onion. i cheated a bit with a baked potato with butter and lowfat or fatfree sour cream and i could eat about 1/2, the next nite i put on nacho cheese and that too was good but mush it up really well!!! i got on mushies last week and find that i am eating a bit more than i thought i'd be able to. about 1-3 oz per meal, thank goodness no sliming yet so i musn't be eat too, too much. i stick to 3-6 small meals/snacks/day and lots of liquids. my first fill is 9/27 so hopefully i won't be eating tons by then :)

Dezado

I don't think we have that kind of cottage cheese here inCanada?? but it sounds good and Ilike your idea of the baked potato..getting hungry just thinking about it. I ate pea soup tonight, and added cheese..mm good and I ate the whole can, felt full after and now hungry again.

My first mushies were yogurt and cottage cheese. The cottage cheese is great because you can add any spice to it to change it up also tastes great with applesauce or any other soft canned fruit :D

I hit the 270s! This was another roadblock before me, because I figured I would need 20 pounds to say that I was "safely" away from the 300s. And finally I got it! 279 when I weighed Sunday morning.

Congratulations! I know exactly how you feel about wanting that 20 lb cushion, Wheetsin. My scale is teetering between 278 and 280 and I can't wait to officially be in the 270s.

Good job! Woohoo!

wow! i am sooo impressed the supersized are rockin off the lbs! my next goal is 250 , what's yours?

250 will be nice, but the next weight I'm eager to see is 230ish. Between 230 - 245. For me that's a size 20, and the last time I could look at myself and feel comfortable was in a size 20... so it will kick of my "return to me".

molly, wheetsin, dezado, julie wow congrats I hope to get on the same page with you one day with the weight thing, Iamstill hovering around 300 and the damn thing doesn't want to move argh!
