A thread for super-sized bandsters - starting BMI over 50?

Recommended Posts

Hi Zanni, I to do not binge or really overeat but I eat the wrong things. I do not like to exercise either but I know from all that I have read and heard that I will have to. I hear that once I get into it I will actually enjoy to exercise.

This is a large expense and only you can decide what to do. I have been over weight since I was 22 and I am 59 now. I have tried all and have loss but gained back all and more. I have decided that I have to change my lifestyle and not let food dictate me. I didn't have insurance for many years and thought this would not be in the cards for me. Then I was lucky to get this job with ins and I started to look into this. I am so blessed that I can and did get this done. I have only been banded for one month but I feel great. Its hard to believe that I have had this done for I feel so great!

Diane

Hi all, I'm new and my surgery is scheduled for Nov. 1. My BMI is 52, I currently weigh 317 (all-time high around 336) and I'm 5'6.

I'm so excited about getting this band because for the first time in a very long time, I finally have hope and I truly believe that I can lose this weight and more importantly keep it off for good!

Hello,

I will undergo surgery on 9/28 and would like to join a support group.

Does anyone know one in the Spring/The Woodlands area?

I have NO idea where that is. And since I don't, I'm obviously of no help. The closest support group for me is an hour away, so I don't even bother with that. This forum has become my support group. And the convenient thing is, it's as close as my computer and available 24/7.

Hi Guys,

i haven't posted in a while i'm on a bit of a downer, i'm now 9 weeks post op and not getting my first fill until 28th September. It's the way things work in the UK. I lost any restriction I had about 4 weeks ago and have been using willpower only since then...and what happens with willpower? It eventually fails!!

I got the band to be my willpower for me, to stop me eating when I can't do it....well, I was doing ok until I had to stop going to the gym for 2 weeks as I had Sciatica and my doc told me to rest up. I can start again now but am frightened as that is where I get weighed!! I think I may have gained...it could be all the chocolate and crisps I've been eating!!

Anyway, enough moaning i try to start each day anew but its not working, at least I only have a week until my fill and then I'l get back on track.

Well done to everyone, your doing so well and I hope to be loosing again soon..

Best of luck on your upcoming surgery. You'll do great, and you're doing something great for yourself.

I'm working on losing my 10% weight so I can get a surgery date.

I have scheduled all my many appts for clearances (Need Cardiology, Pulmonology and Psychology) except for Psych since I'm having difficulty finding a therapist which accepts CDPHP :)

I also have an appt with a Gastroenterologist for a consult to have a GRD whatever that test is. And my husband and I are going to go for a sleep study.

So I'm thrilled that I'm on my way.

Since 9/8 I've lost 8 pounds :)

jeepers, you have a lot of hoops to jump through, lilnena! Much more extensive than my surgeon's requirements, or my insurance company's. But hang tough in dealing with the system, because the band is definitely worth it.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
