HI everyone! I have a question, I am 11 days post op and am eating about 800 calories a day. My first week I lost 11lbs and then gained 2lbs back in the last 4 days. But lost one of those again yesterday. I'm feeling like I'm starting to fail??? Any thoughts? Thanks :) and yea I'm eating the correct things no junk

At 11 days I couldn't even eat food. I was just starting puréed stage and remember a lot of tuna fish, puréed shrimp, and Protein Shakes.< /p>

The first 4-6 weeks post op are for healing, not losing. My best advice is to put the scale away until you're at least a month post surgery and back on solid foods.

As far as calories, I would follow the guidelines your surgeon or nutritionist gave you, but 800 isn't too much.

Different surgeons use different guidelines with their patients...and I was advised to make good choices for foods; only lean Proteins and Fiber carbs. I have to measure my portions to keep them the correct size; for my surgeon this means 3 oz of lean Protein and 2 oz Fiber carb for every meal. I have never counted calories, but I read nutrition labels to know the content in everything on my diet.

In my experience it's just as important to make appropriate food choices as it is to stay with the right sized portions.. Your surgeon or their staff will be the best resource to give you the dietary guidelines you should be following.

Try not to become too obsessed with your scale; small variations in weight are common, and the number on the scale often creates unnecessary negative thoughts. I still work on resisting the urge to weigh myself every day.

Best wishes...

I agree with all of the above. I lost 10lbs pre op and up until my first post op visit, now I know I have gained a few back, but I am ok with that right now. I am making good food choices and working hard on Portion Control. I know when I have restriction I will get help with this. My doc was very specific on the theory "this is the time to heal, not lose weight" I keep drinking my Water and eating my Protein and we will go with what happens. I see my doc on Tuesday and am hoping for a fill!!

your body will weigh differently because you eat or drink or go to the bathroom. so please dont start focusing on gaining 2 pounds and then losing three etc....it will drive you crazy.. as mis73 and sojo said, your are healing from a major surgery. losing weight is not what matters what now.

Agree with the previous posts! After you heal you WILL lose especially if you are dedicated . Good luck on your journey .. You can do this:)

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
