Sudden Nausea On The Pre-Op Diet. Help!

Recommended Posts

Hi there. Well, I'm on day 8 now of my two week pre-op diet. Two or three days ago, I suddenly couldn't finish my Protein Shake. I had been liking them just fine up to that point, but suddenly they're making me sick. I switched to a different brand and I'm doing okay so far with those. But my real problem now is at dinner when I'm allowed to have a small meal consisting of 4 oz of Protein and a cup of fruits and veggies. The protein is making me so sick I can barely finish it. Last night I had baked skinless chicken and tonight I had my favorite ever, tofu. (I'm weird I know) The food tastes fine, but it still makes me feel sick.

Did anyone else go through this? Any suggestions on how I could change my diet maybe to make it better? I'm getting about 500 calories a day, it dropped down to nearly 400 the past couple of days because of this issue. I know that's probably too low but I haven't been too hungry and I'm feeling okay for the most part. I'm still taking my 30-60 minute daily walks too. I'm definitely not pregnant, the doctor tested me for that last week when I went in for something else. So I'm really clueless here. Any help would be SO appreciated!

I had a problem with going to the restroom every 5 minutes and actually began to bleed alot. I called my doctor and they told me I could take pepto at anytime for any nausea, loose stools or anything else yucky... I know I'm on a full liquid diet for 2 weeks but the one night I cheated I felt completely sick to my stomach all night. I think it's all part of our bodies getting rid of the toxins. Try some hot tea and eat like you would if you had your lapband. really small tiny bites and chewing consistantly.

Thanks for the tips. I have been taking teeny bites and chewing well, trying to get myself used to eating slowly. I haven't cheated even the tiniest bit and I had been feeling better so I really thought I was over the worst of it, but then the nausea started. I only have a few days left now, I guess I'll just have to grin and bear it.

I started feeling the same way on my liquid diet. I talked to my doc and he said it was most likely the Protein shakes causing me to feel that way. My body was sooo sick of them that they started to literally make me nauseous. Wether it was all in my head or not, I felt sick to my stomach. Even having to run to the bathroom from fear of throwing up. I was told I could switch to making Protein Shakes (smoothies)instead of buying the ready made ones. I would mix fruit, low fat milk, and Protein powder in a blender and it really helped. The sick feeling didn't come back at all. My doc gave me a website to find different recipes for shakes. It's Allrecipes.com and just type in smoothies. Hope that helps!

I was feeling the same way and I called my nutrition at my surgeons office, first thing she asked was last time I had a BM, it had been several days told me to take some milk of mag I did and ate some green Beans (she told me green beans or chicken breast) about 2 hrs later I ran to the bathroom (several times) however I feel so much better. Not sure if that helps you any but I hope so!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
