Hi,

I had surgery on the 9/07/12. I'm on my second day home and feeling awful. I'm assuming it's the gas. I'm on a liquid diet but I'm not sure what I can have other than Jello, Soup and Water.

Any suggestions would be good.

Yes it is gas. keep walking it will help. Have you taken "gas x?" Yep you are and should stay on a liquid diet. I enjoyed Vegetable, beef and chicken broth. Jello Tea and Water. Etc. YOu will do fine and I congratulate you on your surgery and your trip to a healthy life style. I would imagine that your Dr's office provided you with a week by week menu. Many times, we don't think they do so we do not look at the paper work given to us. Since you have not eatten in a while. Please becareful and don't over do the pain pills. You will become constipated. You will be very unhappy if you do. You might want to purchase stool softners. Sooner than later. At this time you have to be KIND to your area. Take your time and think about how you want to exercise and get ready to learn how to eat again the lapband way. I am hoping that you will not dwell on food all the time. Think about other things as you go foward in your journey. Make friends, read books, measure your body, do not eat that bread. You might want to buy a book for your low carb and high Protein program. remember to chew your food slowly. hugs.

Hi,

Thanks for the reply.

I am very committed to getting this right. So does moving and excercise help with the gas pain? Are there other things that help with the gas? It's awful.

I think many folks find that a heating pad is very useful in dealing with the post op pain. Best of luck to you and congrats on your surgery!

Sorry to hear you aren't feeling well. Are you able to call your doctor and just run things by him? I haven't been banded yet but was recently giving this list of acceptable liquids by the nutritionist. Your doctor may have different requirements but it might be a place to start for ideas.

I have an eating question too because I have been soooo hungry on my liquid diet. Today I went to Panera and got Broccoli Cheddar Soup, took it home and strained it and finally my hunger headache went away, its been keeping me up at night.

So Carley K, you say that you won't be able to drink a whole Atkins shake, I can and do. I don't have any Fluid in my band yet so as I understand it liquids would pass right through the pouch to the larger stomach area. I guess I'm asking to see what everyone else's hunger level is on the post op two week liquid diet. If I'm off the charts hungry then maybe my band slipped while I was sick after surgery. Just being paranoid.

Banded on Thursday 7/5 mid way through day 6. I haven't yet been hungry and I've been sort of walking around my kitchen in a daze, lol. The best things I found so far is chicken broth, cream of mushroom Soup strained & watered down, Tomato Soup made with 1% milk and Water added. I'm on full liquids for another week. I'm drinking juices light grape and apple. I'm thinking egg drop soup strained would be heavenly!

I liked broth. Veggie, chicken and beef. Go for the egg Drop soup..I'll join ya. I do not think there are any restrictions on how much you can have. Drink Water. It will flush out the fat and the weight.

Do not get constipated.....That is the very worst thing to happen. Relax. walk. walk. Think about how pleased you will be....Think about your exercise plans..

Had my band repositioned on the 9th and strained egg drop Soup IS heavenly. So much better than beef broth. Yuck. Luckily I'm not hungry, so mostly just drinking Protein Shakes and Water.< /p>

It is a Chinese soup. Basically egg and cabbage in a medium thickness broth. The Chinese place near me put peas, carrots, and other goodies in it too. So strained it has a lot of flavor.

Thanks will have to try it. Probably not getting as much Protein as I could be because I really struggle with the taste of Protein drinks so something with egg might be good

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
