Wow! Chicken Killed Me Tonight

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone! I have been reading a lot of you guys saying that chicken was the culprit of some serious stuck incidents. Well, you all were right! I am 1 month post op and had some chicken tonight. I got stuck and suffered in pain for 45 min. I thought I knew what stuck felt like...but I guess I really didn't. Anyway, I'm ok now and just resting. That was so crazy. I'm still surprised that chicken did that to me, but I'm glad it happened to me at home and not at the office or in public!! :) It just goes to show that you think you know, but you have no idea until it happens to you!

I have a love hate relationship with chicken. Some days it's fine, other days not so much!

Someone on here told me to keep pineapple juice in my refer, I bought the small cans and have used them twice I felt it really helped

I'm one month out also and chicken also got stuck but in chickens defense (lol) I didn't chew it good enough. I find when something is stuck oh helps to lean over the sink and cough, it seems to move it. I have tried drinking and it only seemed to make it worse!!

Leaning over the sink and coughing was exactly what I did! Agree that it helped.

I mostly can eat chicken if its freshly cooked and i slice it very very thin, people make mistakaes with chicken of cutting small cubes, cubing Protein however small isnt really the answer, that is why some can stuck on minced/ground beef.. meat protein is and can be very stringy/fibrous to eat, u have to cut through those fibres , slicing will do this cubing chicken wont. If i cook a chicken breast, i butterfly it, ie cut it in half not all the way and open it up, then it gets bashed like an escalope then dry fried for just 2 to 3 minutes, the chicken will remain tender and moist because of cooking it quickly,

I can never eat chicken cold tho .. but a good knife and good skills with it can make aall the difference as to what u can and cant eat :)

I had an incident tonight also! I had roasted a turkey breast and was eating some while I was carving it. it tastes so darn good right out of the oven!!

I was also glad it happened at home. when I eat out, I am really careful to chew, chew, chew!!!

anyway, I ate too fast and I guess I didn't chew well enough. I have a workbook from my insurance that says to put 1 teaspoon of meat tenderizer in a glass of Water and drink slowly. by the time I found the info I felt better but, I guess it helps??!!

Believe me you will know. I have had my mouth start to Water and then it comes back up. You can feel a pain in your chest, or just feel uncomfortable and can't eat anymore.

i dont have any problems with the already cooked chickens that are in the grocery store deli, you know the hot , smells so good, ready to go whole chicken ? Those go down easy. But thick , dry chicken bites from the deli ? no way, too thick. So try different textures of chicken, because it is a good Protein source. Some one asked" how will i know when im stuck ? " Oh, you'll know alright ! Mine feels like heartburn in the middle of my chest, then it goes to my ribs and feels like a baby inside trying to push on my ribs with his feet ! Uncomfortable !

I have heard that about the meat tenderizer but it sounds so gross! pineapple juice will do the same thing and taste a lot better! lol

I never eat chicken now without some kind of condiment to help it along...otherwise it's stuck city!

get some papaya enzymes, those help with a stuck episode and not as gross as meat tenderizer and you don't have to open a bottle of pineapple juice. You can get them at Walmart in the Vitamin aisle.

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
