Day 9 Post Op Diet... Did I Do Any Damage?? Comments Please.

Hi everyone,

I was banded June 6th and am on a full liquid diet at the moment. I gave in to my cravings and licked an entire bag of chips (Large Bag)! I know this might sound digusting to some people but I was craving dill pickle and I suppose I got my fix. Did I do any damage? Granted I did consume any chips or solid food but the salt of the seasoning, did that cause my stomach to work to digest??

I also had some ice cream... I let it melt in my mouth before swallowing it. And a bit of a milkshake.... I know these items aren't included in the full liquid diet description mainly because they are unhealthy choices but do you think I've done permanent damage??

Now I know most of you will say why did you get the surgery to revert back to your old eating habits. But that is my decision. My BMI is 27.4 and I got this surgery to help keep my binge eating in check as well to aid in maintaining my ideal weight (when achieved).

I have made the decision NOT to lick anymore chips - my stomach was grumbling a lot during it and I fear I may have caused a band slip even though I didn't eat anything.

I am also wondering if I am supposed to feel restriction on full liquids? I took a look at the suggested diet provided by the clinic and it's only suggesting one cup for Breakfast, one cup lunch, etc. I am consuming approximately 1.5-2 cups of protien shake, and a fat free yogurt. Have you guys experienced this as well??

Thanks in advance for your comments and advice.

  • They're all slider foods and no harm done. You won't feel restriction with liquids unless your band is too tight. Blood is dripping down my chin from biting my tongue! tmf

  • You will be just fine! But it sounds funny to lick the chips!! You will probably not feel any restriction for a while it took me until 9.2 cc in a 14 cc band to feel that and it has been 2 months and

  • Amie, I think you will be fine. Also, I think you brought up an important issue, I hear everybody talking about the liquid diet, the protein shakes, the mooshy food and we are all too ashamed or frigh

Glad to read all of these threads. Tomorrow is 1 month for me. Had a small fill last week but still have no idea how much I can eat, I feel no restriction. My only limitation is self-imposed and that didn't work before I was banded so it won't work for long now. I have lost about 20 pounds since 2 weeks before surgery but now it's stalled and actually went up 3 pounds. Scared I am eating too much but then I think back on how much I was eating before I started this journey. I feel I should have lost more already. Impatient! Glad to hear that there will be a time that I physically can't eat all I want. Ready for another fill already. Thanks all!

I was banded on the 30th. I seem to have come to a standstill as far as weight. My Dr. really has not given me any information. I went in for a followup but it was very short. I did not know what to ask and he said to eat what I could tolerate. I am eating semi soft food. Still do the protein shake. I know I am not drinking enough fluid so maybe that is why my weight loss has stopped. I don't know the size of my band or where my port is so I guess I should have asked more questions. I do go in for my first fill the 26th and after viewing this site I will have a number of questions to ask!! Dox

I got my band on 6/11/12, and my father died unexpectedly 6/14/12. I stuck to diet well even with the added stress, but on the day of his funeral, I just feel like I went crazy. I was supposed to stay with the pureed foods all this week, but the evening of the funeral. I ate twizzlers (chewed up very well) and chocolate. I am concerned that I have caused damage, but I feel ok besides some bloating and gas after my big cheat. I thought I would try back on protein shakes today to get me back on track and to stop the sugar craving. Any advice?

Oh please so don't worry. My daughters dr (one of the leading drs in us for banding) doesn't even put you on a preop diet just the night before. And post op was just a few days. He wants his patients adjusting to normal food as quickly as poss. As long as you didn't get jammed up I would think it just fine. Had you gone out and tried to eat a big ol ribeye maybe that would be diff. Lol
