Is Anyone Else Scheduled For August?

Recommended Posts

Last week was my 5th appointment of my insurance required 6 month supervised diet! It went by really fast after having all the required testing! I was required to have an upper GI, pelvic ultrasound, chest xray, echocardiogram, ekg, nuclear stress test, home and lab sleep study, pulmonary function test, abdominal ultrasound, two nutrition consults, 2 psychiatry visits, pulmonary consult and a cardiology consult! Wow! It made the time fly by and now I am just waiting for my July 2nd pre-op visit and my surgery is scheduled for August 1st! My pre op diet starts July 18th and I will be on the Optifast program. It will consist of shakes, bars and Soups, 6 times a day. My birthday is August 17th so I will probably just be starting mushies but this will be the best gift I can give myself! I can't wait to be banded! :D Is anyone else scheduled for August?

I'm scheduled for the 13th. I finish teaching at a special needs camp on the 3rd, which will probably be my first day of liquid diet, and school starts again two weeks after surgery. It sounds like a long way off but then again it feels like it is right around the corner! Next summer is going to be so great!

I'm hoping to be a late August bander. Fed BCBS req 3 months supervised n I'm on month 2 now. Ins approval takes about a week per BCBS. Here's hoping that holds true!!

I am hoping for August! I submit my papers on the 25th. My lab band specialist stated it takes 1 week to hear from insurance and than I will have my pre-op visit! My doc requires 4 wks of pre-op diet. We are pushing for August 6th. And I agree I didn't have to do as much work as you but I had 6 nutritional visits, 1 psych eval, a EDG, EKG, h-pyloria test, a pulmonary function, and of course blood work. These 6 months have flown by. Now if the rest just falls into place I'll be ok! Congrats and keep us posted.

Yesterday I went to my follow up appointment after my sleep study. Apparently I have mild sleep apnea and need to wear a cpap. Ugh! I really don't want to but the pulmonolgist said he'll clear me for surgery when I see him July 5th if I wear it for 3-4hrs per night until then. Another bump in the road...

I am so sorry to hear about the bump in the road, but hopefully it will make you feel better. Atleast you found out before it got to bad, and you are working toward solving the problem now! It may be a little longer wait before you are able to be banded but i am here for ya and i hope everything works out for you!

Luckily, if I wear the cpap until my follow up visit on July 5th, the pulmonolgist will clear me for surgery and it shouldn't affect my August 1st date :)

Just found out my paperwork is being submitted today to the insurance company for approval. Hoping this part is painless! Crossing my fingers! :D

I am scheduled for August 6th. I am going July 9th for my nutrition class, then I start the preop July 22nd. This seems like a lifetime away!! Hopefully your next apt will go great and your surgery date will not have to change!

The agency that supplies the cpap called me yesterday to discuss payment after my insurance deductible and to set up a time for me to pick it up. Afterwards, I called my pulmonologist and told him that the cpap was a bit expensive, were there any alternatives? Basically, he was like "screw it" (exact words! He said your sleep apnea was mild anyway. Really? Anyways, I am super excited that I don't have to wear the cpap!

I just got a dang call from the hospital. My h-polyari test was sent to the lab and my ballon was deflated, so i have to go tomr morning and have the test done again :(

Sucks, this means my submit date just may be pushed back a couple days.

That is really good I didn't know you have to pay for the machine mine was covered completely. I am happy you don't have to wear it it took me awhile to get use to sleeping with it on my face

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
