Heartburn with meds

Recommended Posts

I take 2 Prozac capsules daily. A few months ago I began to have bad heartburn sometimes after taking them. I read that there is such a thing as reflux caused by pills, etc. and just tried to use more Water as the article suggested. Sometimes it works and sometimes not. Since it really causes major discomfort and distracts me at work, I started taking the meds at night. That helped for a while but now it is becoming so frequent that I am miserable at night. Sometimes I decide to skip a day with the meds so I can get a good night's sleep. Does anyone have suggestions?

I take two Prozac capsules daily also. I used to take them first thing in the morning, but that seemed to cause a feeling of heartburn/reflux. Now I wait until I get to work, and take them with a warm drink, which in my case is coffee. They slide right on down, and don't cause any problems. I definitely wouldn't try taking them right before lying down.

I've had heartburn taking different medications even before I was banded. It's weird cuz I never had regular heartburn from food or even acid-reflux but have had it several times from capsule medications. I'm almost scared to try them now that I'm banded because it was such a yucky feeling.

After posting I made an appointment with the doctor who prescribes the Prozac. I am going tomorrow afternoon and will discuss it with him. I hope there is an alternative because I certainly don't want that "Old Familiar Feeling" of depression back!

Sometimes taking meds with a warm liquid works better when it comes to heartburn, and sometimes meds that once agreed with you just don't anymore. Maybe your dr. could prescribe an antacid to take which would help with the burning feeling. I would hate to see you develop an ulcer. Why not ask what he thinks? I envy you that you can take Prozac. I was on it for a few weeks and truly wanted to "hurt someone". It was horrible for me, but works great for some people. It was like me on steroids. It changes my whole personality and makes me mean.....no explanation but it does. Good luck.

I would also try not taking both pills at the same time. I would take each about 6 hours apart. Maybe that would help.

Before the band, heartburn 24/7. After the band, heartburn completely, instantaniously gone for good. Weird.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
