Removal Of My Band

Recommended Posts

My 1st experience in blogging. Banded January 09, excellect surgeon, 1st year was fantastic! I was 252 when I began got down to 152, lost 100lbs. Could wear size 12 jeans. No longer high cholesteral, high blood pressure and Dibetes.

The 2nd year started having sensitivities to foods would have trouble keeping food down. Now, I have trouble eating just about everything, boiled eggs, chicken, meat, vegetables, even cicken noodle Soup.< /p>

The only things that stay down now, are liquid calories and potato chips. When you're hungry you'll fin d something that stays down. Well, a few days ago my doctor did a second Barium Swollow and found I have an Obstruction and Slip in my Band. I'm having surgery on Tues. to remove my band. It will be a relief! I wanted to pass on my experience and advice to newbee's. If you notice you are vomiting after eating, get it checked out.

Good luck to everyone! I hope you all have positive results.

Thank you for your post. As a newly banded person I really appreciate that you used this opportunity as a teaching moment for us - not a negative warning! This helps us stay positive while learning about watching for those possible complications!

Hello hunni,

I'm having my band out on Monday. I've had it for 8 years and for the last 4 I've been the same as you and no proper food will go down. chocolate and biscuits will go down but Protein and all fruit and veg get stuck. I'm so fed up and have got chronic IBS and I'm sure it's because of the band. I burp all the time and have trapped wind constantly.

All people be aware that there has been a study and after 5 years 50% of bands will fail! This is scary stuff, when I got my band I was told it would last over 10 years at least. The last 4 years have been hell!!!!

I'm hoping that when I get the band removed there will not be too much damage to my stomach. Sending best wishes on your band removal. xx

I always find it strange when new people that have never participated in this board before come on and their first post is about how they are having their band removed.

I always wonder.

Are they for real?

What is their motivation?

Are they maybe being paid as some kind of troll to achieve some kind of result.

I have always been a sceptic, it is part of me that is not going to change.

So if you are for real I wish you all the best in your bandless future.

Obstruction? Of what?

For the record: band slips do not necessarily require band removal, repositioning, or replacement. Often they're treated successfully with a complete unfill and rest period. Worked for me.

Why on earth have you let that suffering go on for four years?

Why would the band "cause" irritable bowl syndrome (IBS)? That doesn't make sense. I agree that this is a fishy post. Who's to gain from scaring people away from something that works for so many people? Guess I'm naive. What "study"? I did LOTS of research before getting my band...I never saw that study. Citation please.

Thanks for the post. I appreciate knowing the good, the bad, and the ugly. The fact of the matter is that the band does not work for everyone, for a variety of reasons. So while, I love hearing the motivationals stories of those who had no complications and lost tons of weight in less than a year, I also want to know the other side of the picture. I use all of this as potential information that may or may not affect me.

Right now I am experiencing success and hope I continue to have success. However, I do feel for those who don't have success or have had complications and then get stoned, shunned or questioned for posting "their" experience. I would hate if those people stop posting, because I for one want to know ALL potential risk.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
