Question For A Banded Pharmacist/nurse

Recommended Posts

My surgery is scheduled for Thursday and I as picked up my ashma script yesterday I realized that I need to ask a question from someone "in-the-know". I take a single Singular tablet every morning and I am wondering if that pill is small enough to safely go through the band or if I will need to crush it? I do plan on crushing it at first but I don't want to have to crush it forever if it is small enough to safely pass.

Thanks so much for sharing your knowlege. :)

Singular comes in a chewable. If you cant swallow it just get you Dr to write the scrip for the chewables next time. They are mostly given to children, but the Dr. I worked for would also give them to older patients. I have used them at times and they seem to work quicker.

That was what I was hoping. Did you crush yours the first couple weeks or did you just swallow it whole?

Depending on how much swelling you have, some patients have a hard time just getting Water down....so you may need to crush it. If you are like me....I must not have had any swelling...it would not have been an issue. You will just need to wait and see where you are after the surgery.

I am on several different maintenance medications, which needed to continue to be taken daily.

My primary care doctor prescribed everything which came in a liquid form to be changed to liquid. One medication needed to be changed to a "solutab" form (chewable).

The other medications which only came in pill form had to be crushed, which I hated the taste of. The only "stuck" episode I have had to date was with a small pill...5 weeks post op. I carefully followed the advice of my doctor, and crushed everything for the first 2 weeks post-op.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
