Hi. It's my 3rd day on mushies and when the dietican rang me on Thursday, she said I can have some of the tiny Pasta now. I bought some and cooked it up last night but unfortunately the Tomato sauce I used was too sharp so I didnt enjoy it( but did finish that portion). I had no problem keeping it down tho.

I stupidly tried a small piece of poached chicken after I did my son a chicken/bacon/philly cheese and BBQ Sauce panini at lunchtime today and that made me sick for about 30mins. I feel washed out so will be sticking to poached salmon, mashed potato and mushy peas!!

I'm really hoping that chicken won't be a problem for me longterm as I'm used to having it at least 3 times every wek. I should have stuck to the rules and only had minced chicken during this fortnight!

Only being 7 weeks out from surgery, I have repeatedly been cautioned about having Pasta or rice until I reach the 6 month post op date. At that time, I was told by the dietitian that I could try to have a small (2 oz) portion of brown rice or whole wheat Pasta.

It's going to be a life time change for me to switch to brown rice, which I like, and whole wheat pasta, which I do not like.

No matter what the food, the less processed it is, the healthier of a choice it will be. I was instructed to stay away from "everything white".

So far, it has not been too much of a challenge. Good luck with your weight loss journey!

I can eat pasta; I just don't. It's not really a huge favorite for me. At this point in your journey I would not suggest Pasta. Really just a bunch of processed carbs.

We eat brown rice Pasta, just not too much at a time. The reason regular pasta could be a problem is that wheat contains gluten, which is the sticky stuff that holds it together. The gluten can cause it to form a ball in your stomach that won't go down, so whole wheat pasta can be more of a problem that regular pasta. I would stick with the brown rice pasta.

Yep, I eat pasta! Love it! I have it maybe once every week or two for dinner. Just have to watch the amounts, but as long as I don't twirl 20 strands at once, I'm good!

I used to love Pasta, prob had it at least twice a week before surgery. I can still eat it but I don't any more. When I make it for my family I will just have the meat sauce and add a little bit of cheese. I still have to count my calories so for me, it's not worth it.

I'm 2 1/2 yrs out and I can eat a very small portion of Pasta. Olive Garden is my fav restaurant and I was afriad I'd never be able to eat there again. I eat about 1/2 bowl of chicken gnocci Soup, 1/2 breadstick, and about 6 bites of Pasta. I also make spagetti occasionaly at home and can eat a very small portion. Good luck!

Question about the dreamfield Pasta. I have a box sitting in my pantry but I was afraid to try it.....When I started the low carb thing i was told I could substract the Fiber from the carb total for a net carb total.

Dreamfields list it as digestable carbs.------Whats That!? Do we realy only have to could the "other carbs"

I eat Pasta, but only whole grain. If it's white, or the package says "enriched" (despite appearing to be whole grain) I won't buy it.

The exception would be when eating out, a Lean Cuisine, or eating at someone else's house. But whenever I cook and the recipe calls for Pasta I use whole grain. If it's rice, I use brown rice.

But I eat both pasta and rice regularly with no problem, I just have to take really small bites and wait a little bit between bites.

Ditto.

Try quinoa. High in Protein and has a slight crunch. Almost Pasta like.

Love pasta!, and thankfully am able to eat a small portion without any problems. Rice is a tricky one...Rice-roni from a box, i seem to be ok with, but rice from chinese food..no good. Only real trouble i have is bread..mostly rolls.

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
