Congrats Christine!

So today has been my first bad day. Constantly feeling hungry, dull headache that won't go away and just feel weak. It's weird... I get hungry every 1-2 hours but when I sit down to eat I have little desire. Or i get stuffed so fast i cant eat ENOUGH to sustain me so i get weak. Is this an emotional thing?! Just me? I don't feel energetic or like myself even tho every meal is mostly Protein, plus 3 glasses of milk Inbetween. Is anyone else going through this?

Maybe I need to be eating 4 or 5 meals a day. :(

I talked to the nurse today who said constant hunger is normal til a full, but I'm feeling discouraged.

Hi there I will try to answer your questions but remember all doctors seem to vary in these thoughts so you really do need to ask your doctor to be sure of how he wants you to proceed!!!!!

Will the connection for refills stick out? MY DOCTOR USES A LOW PROFILE BUT DEPENDING ON YOUR WEIGHT LOSS YOU MIGHT NEED A REVISION

Do they have to cut you again when they refill? NO, IT IS DONE BY USING AN ULTRASOUND TO LOCATE YOUR PORT AND THEY USE A NEEDLE WITH SALINE TO INJECT IT THROUGH THE PORT

How soon is a refill? DEPENDS ON YOUR DOCTOR MINE IS 6 -8 WEEKS AFTER SURGERY

How long after surgery can you have sex? MY DOCTOR SAYS 4 WEEKS AND THEN A LESS STRESSFUL POSITION FOR THE BANDED PATIENT

I did not know that I would be restricted on driving. How long? ONE WEEK OR AS LONG AS YOU ARE ON PRESCRIPTION PAIN MEDICINE ( I STARTED DRIVING YESTERDAY A LITTLE BIT BUT, I STOPPED PAIN MEDS 3 DAYS POST OP)

Tomorrow is my day May 24th; I am scared and nervous just like most of you were. I keep taking deep breaths and tell myself it will be ok.. I have only told two people what I am doing and feel a little deceitful' date='not sure how to handle this.

Can you tell me if you have to strain the cream Soup before eating them? I also tried the Protein Drinks and gag so I hope I can eat something else.

Have tons of questions but do not want to take up to much of your time. I bet I could find the answers if I look around the web site.

Thanks and good luck to all the May banders.

I'm being banded tomorrow as well @ 10am. I'm excited but also nervous about the procedure. I,ve read books, looked at YouTube videos of people sucess stories, and I've browsed this sit on numerous occasions and I still have many questions like you. I guess I'll just follow my doctors instructions and quit over thinking everything. Good luck to you and hopefully we can be banded buddies throughout this journey...

I was banded May 4th. It was scary and exciting!! My doctor is Dr. Marsden from true results here in Texas. He is such a character. I was comfortable with him from the get go. It was rough the first couple days after surgery. The gas pains were killer and I walked a ring around my house for days to hopefully get it to pass. It did but slowly. Me and gas x are on a first name basis now..LOL. I am going for my first fill on Tues the 29th and am nervous. I can't burp still and haven't since the surgery...how awful let me tell you!! I've lost 22lbs since May 4th so I believe it's a success!!! I have learned so much from this site and everyone has amazing stories and ideas. Good luck to each of us on our journeys!!

@rskegui Sounds like you are doing well. :) a good surgeon makes the process so much easier. Mine made me feel at ease right away too.

Has anyone else gained weight since being banded? Since switching to soft foods a few days ago, I have gained 7.5 lbs. Crazy.

Surgery was Monday and just starting to feel normal now. Mainly gas pains and some pain at the port site. Walking as much as much as I can. Getting enough Fluid and Protein is hard. Had 48oz of fluid and only 19gm protien. How much is everyone else getting in thefirst week?

I'm getting 64 oz of fluid or more a day and my protein is 60 grams or more a day

My surgery was May 11th and I start mushie food tomorrow

I was banded 14th May and have my first fill on 28th June. Still not really hungry but went shopping for mushies food last night, my first time in a supermarket since the surgery and it was quite tough. Now I've got things like cottage cheese and Peanut Butter in the house, I'm really tempted to snack on them! Was easier when there was nothing here to eat. lol

Starting mushies tomorrow as I am going back to work on Monday and want a couple of days to settle in to the mushies before then. Really hoping I don't gain weight once I start eating. I've lost 13.8 pounds since surgery date and 55 pounds to date since my heaviest.

I'm walking lots each day and trying to make sure I get my fluids down too.

One thing I thought I might ask although this group might all be a bit to new at this but my diet sheet says after 2 weeks fluids and 2 weeks mushies, I can start to eat normal food and provides a sample menu which includes bread, pita, muffins etc. I thought that I would have to give up bread altogether. What have your experiences been? I love bread so would love to still be able to eat it, albeit in smaller amounts. :)

I was no no bread....pasta or rice which is fine with me that's what made me fat!!

I have to say Peanut Butter was a very slippery slope for me. I said it's a mushie and it's Protein. Only problem is the horrible calories and fat. You can eat 6oz of greek yogurt for 150 cals for 14 g of protein 2 tablespoons of peanut butter is 180 cals and 8 g of protein. Really no competition.

I had to stop buying Peanut Butter because I was eating it straight out of the jar, LOTS of it. I highly recommend buying PB2 http://bellplantation.com/. It is peanut powder which is easily added to Protein Shakes. You can reconstitute it with Water to make paste.

I gave up bread, rice, Pasta as everyday foods. If I am at a party, or dinner I will eat bread. But only high quality bread otherwise it's just not worth the calories. I'm shocked your doctor is recommending breads and muffins.

One hint for "sandwiches" is to take Romaine lettuce spread low fat laughing cow cheese down the spine, squeeze on mustard, put chicken breast on and fold over the leaf. Ta Da Sandwich!

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
