I cant tolerate anything milky in the mornings, I now start the day with a green tea, then about 11am I can have proper tea. Cant eat Pasta, rice, bread, tuna or any fish, chicken is a struggle.... can eat mash potato, find if I make it really mushy its a nice filler and then Im not hungry for hours and mince like in chilli etc is fine....

What are you filled to?

I have been having problems eating or even drinking anything at all until after 3 in the afternoon.

I have my protien shake in the mornings because I can not tolerate breakfast at all. I also have not had bread, Pasta, and rice pretty much for 2 years now. Occasionally I will try to eat some sushi and usually can eat ONE... . I used to miss the bread/pasta... but not so much anymore. I would like to be able to eat rice, but it tends to clump up on my and just make me miserable.. so I avoid it. But the main thing about breakfast for me is I think my band is pretty tight in the mornings.. and doesnt seem to losen up until around 1 or 2... I know that everyone is different when it comes to that, so my experience may be different than yours and many others. But that is how I solved my breakfast issues... just with my shake in the am. Then usually grapes or fruit around 10 or 11... then I typically have tuna salad or chicken salad with a few crackers at lunch. My main meal is usually around 5 or 6. If I had more willpower I would stay away from my snacks.. but I tend to have some wheat thins in my desk that I snack on around 3 or 4.. which is my downfall right now.

I can't do breakfast either. I'm just now eating a bit of toast and cheese and it's 11:40 am. I can do bread as long as it's toasted. But not a whole sandwich. I can do an english muffin though.

I am filled to 5. But last month I was at 4 and I felt like I could eat way too much! I am not having a problem with drinking anything at all just food. I tried to eat pot roast at a friends house the other day and I chewed it until it was nothing and still almost threw up. So I pretty much have to eat stuff crunchy or very very soft....I cannot eat anything in between. I still feel hungry a lot though so its just weird! My friend had her surgery in oct and she can eat everything but cheese and rice.

@tylee...That sucks! You probably feel like crap not eating or drinking until 3!!

I don't really miss bread and pastas anymore. I just am learning still what I can tolerate I guess lol. I just had my surgery in jan. So I guess i am not the only one who can't eat breakfast. I usually do my Protein Shake in the morning but I decided to try to eat eggs and some wheat toast and my body was like NOPE!! lol.

You have to be very careful not to fall the pattern of NOT eating until 2 or 3 though.. that has been a huge issue for me and ultimately is keeping me from losing the last bit I have to lose. Your body wont start burning that fat until you start it's engine... So make sure you are getting in that Protein FIRST thing in the morning with either a shake or something. It is so easy to get going in your day's routine and just not eat... because if your like me, I really am not that hungry in the mornings at all... but it is a BAD habit to start !

I have not had a slid breakfast in over 9 months now.

I have my coffee, then a high Protein smoothie.

I can eat eggs, etc if I wait 2-3 hrs after I wake up.

On vacations, I will go to the gym first, then can have breakfast with my wife a few hours after.

Thank you everyone for your feedback! I really appreciate it esp since I have only had two fills now. I guess I will just stick to the Protein Shake in the morning!

My patient advocate told me there are four things most people struggle with : steak, Pasta, rice, and bread. He also said most banded people cannot eat breakfast and they either do a shake or nothing. He said he hasnt eaten breakfast in years and he is just fine with it. I have not had my surgery but I was pareparing myself that those items and issues will likley be my expirence.

I cannot eat anything in the morning. I have problems drinking Water if I wake up in the middle of the night thirsty. I usually have coffee in the morning then my Protein shake. Usually by 11:00 I can eat something, fruit, cheese stick, not alot but I can get it down. My doctor says this is normal.

I cannot eat bread unless it is toasted. I do not think I have tried rice yet. Steak is a 50/50 thing sometimes I can eat it sometimes I cannot the same with chicken. Fish goes down fine. I do not eat a lot of Pasta.

It's normal. I sip on a skinny latte from 9-10 then have yogurt and Cereal between 12-1.

Starting from 3pm I can eat anything with little restriction since I am not that tight yet - I try not to :)

I learned to love the yogurt :)

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
