I was also banded on the 13th so far I can get about 4oz of the Protein Shakes in if I go slow and take hour I can get the whole 8oz in. Not doing much other the Water which I've been doing fairly well at getting my daily amount of that. Today I still have pain in my left shoulder. Have cut myself back to only take pain meds at night. Over all doing ok.

Woo hoo, congrats to you!!! I was banded Jun 30, 2011. I have only lost about 50 lbs, but I am just fine with that. I was very sick to my stomach the first 2-weeks, but haven't looked back since. I LOVE my band, it helps me control my eating which is exactly what it's suppose to do. Always think of your band as a tool, it can't do it by itself it needs you to use it correctly. My doctor is very strict, I've only had 3 fills since surgery and only at about 3.5cc's in my band. If my weight loss is more than an avg of 1-2 lbs per week, he will not fill. He wants his patients to do it the correct way and not lose to fast then have to worry about saggy skin. The only place I am really flabby is behind my arms, I go to the gym 4x per week and do about 40-50 minutes of cardio and another 30-minutes of the machines. You will do great, I wish you all lots of luck!!!

Awesome 50lbs is great. What was your starting weight? I am so worried about not losing weight which I guess most people worry about but I started at 197.

Hi all- i was also banded on 3-13-12 and i'm doing great! i came home that day and the dr wouldn't give me my meds before so my mom had to run around town getting them for me. The pharmacy i go to didn't have the pain medicine so she had to come home, get my insurance card and go to another pharmacy, she was gone for a long time and i had some dry heaving spells from not having pain medicine when i needed it. once i got the medicine i was fine. I dry heaved about 4 times the day of surgery which freaked me out because i was afraid i would slip the band....i think i'm fine ;) i hope your dr's can give you your rx's before so you don't have this issue. I haven't had any gas pains until today in my left shoulder. I really think the dry heaving "helped" me get a lot of the gas out. The tape they used to cover my incisions gave me blisters so i was instructed to take them off....i have 21 staples and they don't look bad at all. I go this coming tuesday for my post op appt and the dr said he would remove the staples!! I am eating 1/2 cups of Jello at a time, 4oz silk light with 1/2 scoop of choc Unjury Protein 2 times a day but i think i'm going to up my dinner shake to 8oz. it takes me about 30 min to drink the 4oz shake. so glad yall are all on here talking! Question, do yall have any pain near your chest and breathing problems? sometimes i feel i can't catch my breath and other forums said it was a feeling like i was 9 months pregnant and had no room for anything.

Hi,

We're band twinsies.....I was banded 3/13/12 also. I have been feeling fine except gas pain and soreness at incisions. I walked 20 blocks to the surgery that morning from my hotel room because I was alone in a different town. Stayed off the pain meds so I could drive myself three hours home the next day and have been at home helping take care of my 3 kids since. (I did take them to daycare during the day so I could rest.) But as far as taking it easy, there's not much of that available to me. I'm a full time working mom of 3, also getting a master's degree on the side. It's back in the saddle for work on Monday.

I can drink more full liquids than I should I think, I have been able to pretty much keep pace with the pre-surgery liquid diet. My doc did fill my band about 2cc's in a 10 cc band during surgery. And my first fill is set for 4/21.

I just wanted to speak up since we are banded on the same day, would be fun to compare notes over time.

Smiles,

Amanda

Hi everyone...

Update-my surgery was on Monday and I am feeling so much better. I went shopping today with my mom and daughters. I have only had pain meds. once today and that was this morning. Walking has been fine.

I am drinking 70 grams of Protein a day (3 shakes-25 grams each), 2 cups of chicken broth (love it!) and 1 sugar free Jello each day. I have to take my time and this usually takes me all day to get everything in but I am NOT hungry. I am making myself finish the Protein shakes. I am also working on my Water intake. I am learning that I have to pace myself throughout the day. What used to take no time to drink a Protein shake, may take me about an hour or longer now. I am fine with that.

I haven't lost anything since the surgery but I am trying not to weigh each day. I lost 14 before surgery. I am letting my body adjust and do what it needs to. Personal note-BM made on third day. I was pretty nervous about this but Dr. told me to try Milk of Magnesia. Worked!

I hear my stomach churning alot. I am paying attention and when I hear it, I am happy that everything is functioning.

Monday, I begin Tomato Soup phase. Still Protein Shakes but moving into thicker substances. The third week will become soft foods and limiting shake intake but still getting in appropriate Protein amounts. 4th week-1 shake along with lunch and dinner.

My incisions are healing and I really am not in pain. Only when I try to stretch or turn in a weird way. I am able to function and will be going back to work on Monday.

I am really happy and everything is going as I expected. Good luck to everyone!

Oh, I'm OK. I could have stayed at the hotel another night, but hubby has not been particularly excited about the whole band thing, really wished I wouldn't do it, but thats a whole other story. And so I was trying to make this as quick and painless for him as possible. While I was gone he had to handle things at home by himself and that is super hard when he's supposed to leave for work before daycare even opens. We are self-pay for the surgery, so really cannot afford for either of us to take time off of work. I am a teacher and scheduled this for my spring break.

It will be good to have people on here to talk to about the surgery and process. I just counted and I am up to 1195 calories full liquid and 122protien on day 4 which I am afraid is probably too much.

On another note, my best friend's mother in law came and took her two little kids away for the weekend, JUST CAUSE....which made me cry with jealousy. Never in my life has someone done that for me. She has no idea how awesome that is.

Hi there! I just got my band on 03/14/12. I have been having some gas issues as well as incision pain. I haven't looked yet because the nurse said not to remove the bandages for three days. I have been drinking mostly Water and a few ounces of Protein Shake and chicken broth. I have only felt hungry once since the surgery and that was this afternoon. A couple of ounces of chicken broth solved that and then I felt stuffed. I guess I'm still pretty swollen. I'm going to attempt to go back to work tomorrow. I will be checking in to try and keep track of what y'all are going through since you have a few days on me. Congratulations!!

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
