Do u have to go on a liquid diet a week before surgery? I have heard that.

Every doctor seems to be different. Mine says 9 days prior, or two weeks of liquid plus one meal... But he does require 21 days of NOTHING solid afterwards.

My doctor requires liquids two weeks prior and 4wks after surgery. I'm on day three of pre-op, doing ok so far. It was a little tough last night, I bowl and my team ordered a large pizza that I had to sit there and smell. But I had a Protein Drink and just kept telling myself I can do this!! lol

My dr told me two week liquid before to shrink the liver which gets in the way of the surgery. In doing research I read that if the lied is enlarged then there is a greater chance of them havin to cut u open rather than just the small access holes. I did lose like 15 lbs during my liquid diet but I cheated some, I'm not gonna lie.

I was on a 14 day liquid diet ( which they provided for me ) prior to sugery and 10 liquid after.. Now I am on the mushy stage.. I've been on that since the 19th of Feb and will see my dietican on the 15th of March and see where I go from there.. They told me I can eat what ever I really wanted on the mushy stage as long as it can be blended, mashed, crushed or chewed into a mushy stage...

I am on day 3 of liquid diet. My daughter was banded almost 2 years ago and has done awesome.

I was under the impression that high Protein also help your recover afterwards.

Looks like all the doctors have different ways to do it.

Good luck everyone!

Terri

I didn't have a liquid diet prior. Just a week of healthy eating. Afterwards though it was 19 days before full solids.

I had no diet at all before surgery. I was told to eat or drink nothing midnight the nite before. I went to Outback for ribs the night before surgery. Even had a pc of cheesecake. But I had to be on liquids only for 4 weeks afterwards - which is very hard.

Good luck!

Marci

My doc has 10 day prior is a liquid diet with 1 fruit and 2 c cooked veggies. Clear Liquids 2 days pre-op, and Clear Liquids at least 1 week after and start mushies as you can tolerate. I make my own Protein drinks, they have not offered any required type.

Today is my day 1 liquids. So far, so good!

GOODNESS! I feel lucky! I had to be on a "liver shrinking diet" for only one week prior to surgery. And that consisted of chicken, fish, salads, and Protein Shakes. After surgery it was just a one month process of getting back to normal food. First liquids for week one, then blended for week 2 and mushy foods for weeks 3&4. It was easy. I'm so glad I didn't have to be on liquids for as long as some. God bless you! :)

My surgery is Thursday the 15th. My doctor put me on Adkins which I've been on since last monday. I was really hoping to lose some weight from the diet change, but I've only taken off 1lb. Oh well my day is coming in a few days.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks
