I was doing great, 15 days post op. I am allowed mushies now so I took some chili and blended it too baby food consistency. Only ate about 2oz of it. Everything went well, felt good, went for a walk on the tread mill. But good lord about an hour after going to bed, I got sicker than a dog. Nauseous and had relfux feeling. For a snack I had 2 oz of v-8. I don't know if something got stuck or what happened, but it was so bad. I am going back to liquids to day. A popsicle for Breakfast was too much and definitely feel swelling in throat. Don't see dr till next week, if it keeps up I will be calling the nurse. Not sure if it was the food choice that was bad or if it was the fact it was a little thicker than liquids. I guess I learn the hard way!

20 ounces (is this a typo?) of anything at one time is likely too much food, especially spicy food. Even with mushies you should be aiming for much smaller quantities (like 4 to 8 ounces) at each meal. You are just pre-surgery and you have to be very careful with what you eat and how much you eat at any one time. If you meant 2 ounces, then spicy food still gets to me (I get bad stomach cramps) and I am 5 months post surgery.

OMG... that is a typo!!! Ever since surgery I have only been able to get down 2oz at a time. Sometimes not even that! I don't have a real desire to even eat yet. I just couldn't believe the rawness in my throat this morning, it's weird. Fixed the typo... thanks for pointing that out!!

I realize you blended it but even blended chili would be really heavy. At day 15 I was only allowed low fat cottage cheese/ricotta, and yoghurt. I would try those for a few days and see how that goes.

I am glad to hear it...sounds like you need to avoid spicy, heavy foods for a while. As other posters suggested yogurt, low calorie puddings, cottage cheese, protein-fruit smoothies, etc., might be a better idea until you are healed. And if your throat is raw and dry in the morning, you could be dehydrated and you should up your daily Water intake. Hopefully, you aren't coming down with a cold (an alternative reason for a raw, dry throat)

my throat does that swelling thing when I've eaten too much/too fast, it hurts like swollen tonsils.

Like you said Lesson learned

Talked to the nurse at the dr's office, she thinks it was reflux from the spices. And was glad to hear I went back to liquids. Now I just can't quit crying today. I was never this emotional. I just can't wait to go back and talk to the actual dr.

Well at least it sounds like you've figured out the cause, it would be way more frustrating to have no idea.

Today is my first day of mushies and I, for one, greatly appreciate you sharing this story, it's good to know. I probably would have thought nothing of it either : (

This is a very emotional journey. Maybe you could try keeping a journal and write about what's going on when you feel this way.

That and this site is great for reminding us that we are not alone and going through similar situations. So glad my friend recommended it :)

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
