How Long Was Your Hospital Stay?

Recommended Posts

I'm curious to how long everyones hospital stay was?

I ask because prior to meeting my surgeon, everything I read was saying that surgery is usually outpatient and you go home the same day.

However, my surgeon said I would stay overnight and because I was "one of her larger patients" I would most likely stay 2 nights. Thats not a big deal for me, but I was quite surprised by it.

Has anyone else had to stay overnight or longer?

I had to stay over night. Normally she would let someone my age and with minamal heath issues go home the same day but since i lived 3 hours away she required me to stay over night. Wich was rather interesting because i had my service dog with me. But all in all i'm glad i did stay over night because the pain medication and extra help that night was nice, though the bed wasn't that comfortable.

I had to stay overnight. I was told that from the begininng. which was fine because like Cynesra I live 3 hours from my doctor. I did have to go to the ER where i had my surgery 3 days later due to the fact i couldnt keep anything down, not even Water. they removed the "primer" Fluid from my band and im alright now. then again they wanted me to stay due to the fact i was dehydrated, but i didnt i figured i could drink and keep it down id be fine and I am. Good luck to you both!

I had my surgery on a Tuesday morning at 8am and was discharged Wednesday at about noon. That is standard for my doctor for all patients. Good Luck!

The Dr. would have let me go the same day if I wanted but I stayed overnight so I was kept more comfortable and then I was discharged around noon the next day. I was glad I stayed because it took me awhile to shake off the effects of the anestesia.

My Dr said I could go home the same day but when I woke up from the surgery he told me I needed to stay overnight because I have sleep apnea and sleep with a cpap machine. I was bummed at first then so glad I had to stay overnight because the nurses and pain meds thru the night were ALOT of help! Surgery @ 12pm Friday and out of hospital by 10am Saturday.

I went home the same day. My doc had told me the only reason he would keep me overnight is If the had to convert to an open procedure.

My surgery was done out patient, I checked in at 6am had surgery at 7am and was released at noon. My mom however did have to stay for 3 days it was a requirement of her insurance. so it just depends. Also I think it has to do with how you tolerate the pain and how your body reacts as far as your vital signs.

I had to stay one night, but ended up staying two nights because I was having breathing issues.

I had to stay overnight because my insurance preapproved saying I would be staying overnight.

I stayed overnight on a 23 hour stay. My surgery was at 12 pm and I didn't get out until after 2, which put me over time for short stay unit. I could have gone home the same day if I had an earlier slot. I will say, however, that I am glad I had the overnight stay because I was in a lot of pain. Was enjoying the pain pump and I had trouble getting fluids down so IV took care of that.

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
