2 Days Post Op.. Shouldwe Stop Ttc?

Recommended Posts

Yes you should put that business on HOLD! If you are TTC and you just got your surgery, most doctors suggest waiting at least 18-24 months before TTC. Some people just wait a year or so though. I want to at least reach 100 lbs lost OR my goal (130 lbs) before TTC. Losing weight can only HELP you conceive in the long run! You should probably consider some form of birth control before then because most people are very fertle after the surgery due to hormonal changes in your body due to fast weight loss.

Good Luck!

Why would you go through getting the surgery then try to get pregnant right away? That defeates the purpose and you could do more harm then good since the first 8 weeks is based on healing and recovery alone...

@ erin marie thank you for your advice

@ heather what is with that comment ? That was very insensitive of you !

You dont know anything about me or anything that's going on inside my body or my head or my heart. How can you be so blunt about such a sensitive subject.

I was simply starting a conversation to get a little support. don't you dare assume that me falling pregnant would be defeating the purpose of having the surgery. I know the purpose of my surgery !!!

I would like to say that "You obviously don't know what it's like to be told you can never have children". But I won't, because that would make me negative & presumptuous like you.

In Heathers defense, I dont think she was trying to be insensitive or rude. Your doctor would probably say the same thing. I, too, was ttc for several years before I decided on the lapband and am counting down the days when my doc told me it was safe and reasonable to start ttc again. whatever you decide *baby dust* :-)

@ lollicat thank you for the baby dust

Your probably right but whether or not she meant to be rude & insensitive.... That's how it cane across. It seemed like she thinks I'm some kind of idiot & that I don't know the potential risks. & yes that is what my doctor told us, but many woman in my position continue to ttc & have happy healthy pregnancies. I guess those were the testimonial type replies I was hoping for.

Sorry if I have been bitchy.... Again just a very sensitive topic for me ))):

Thank you lollicat. Unfortunately words can be "heard" in a different tone on the Internet. I do wish you the best with both your lapband and TTC journey but right now you need to focus on YOU and getting yourself healthy so that you can have a happy and healthy pregnancy.

Thank you Amanda. It's good to know you feel my pain. Wishing you all the very best on your journey xxx

@ Heather thank you for your concern but I am fully aware of all of that. This is a support type network/forum and that was all I was hoping for... A little support. I was not looking for someone to ear bash me & tellme what, I ALREADY KNOW. I'm not stupid. You message one tiny paragraph which had not an ounce of sensitivity or understanding & it was very blunt. Maybe you should proof read your posts before you send them & soften them a little bit.

Well... of course no one likes to be told they cant have children. It has taken me 17 years to get pregnant and only 14 months post surgery. Your initial question was should you stop ttc. A wise and supportive comment would be yes you should stop. Only for now! You dont have to wait forever (I know a year seems a long time). I think Heather was just telling you the the facts. I personally didnt get that she was insensitive or not understanding. I just know my Dr stressed waiting because of all the changes your body makes in that first year. Yes I do believe closely monitored you can have a health pregnancy immediately after surgery. But I know to encourage you to get pregnant ASAP would be counterproductive as to why you got the band. If you were having trouble ttc before, lose the weight, get healthy so you have a happy and healthy pregnancy. If you do get pregnant right away, I wish you a happy and healthy pregnancy. I am completely understanding of you wanting a child. As I said 17 years of tears and disappointment for me. But now that I am closer to goal, I am having a smooth pregnancy, I dont have to worry as much about obesity making this pregnancy either high risk or difficult. Being healthy is the greatest gift you can give your unborn child.

Best of luck to you if you keep ttc or if you take a small break. No matter what, children are a blessing.

Hello everyone

I would like to make an official & sincere apology. I don't know what came over me. Please understand that I am not a confrontational person usually & I'm sorry I flew off the handle & exploded like that.

Having the surgery & changing my life after being fat for such a long time, working on maintaining my amazing relationship with my beautiful fiancé, talking about stopping ttc, Plus the added euphoria of taking very strong pain killers at the moment.. What I'm trying to say is that all of the above are really taking their toll on me at the moment & are contributing factors as to why I reacted the way I did. I'm truly sorry & a little embarrassed. I don't know why I thought Heather would mean any harm, I'm just really sensitive ):

I know now that I worded the opening sentence to the topic the wrong way. I should've made it something like "stopping ttc... Support wanted" or something to that effect.

I did write it as more of a question as if I don't know the answer.

Anyways I wish you all the very best on your journeys, I'm hoping we can chat more in the future. ( I promise I'm not a complete psycho )

To conclude, ever since my initial consult with my surgeon (8 wks ago) our plan has been to stop ttc... So I don't know why I asked that question... As I said I was more looking for a little support & testimonial type responses to give me something to go on.

Thank ladies

Love Jodie

Don't be embarrassed, upset, confused.. .we've all been there! The weeks following surgery can be very emotional. My doctor suggested a year before we start ttc again but honestly, I'm almost 50lbs down, with 30 more to go until I hit my goal. BUT, since I suspect it'll take many attempts to get pregnant, my DH and I have decided its time to have fun, not be careful, and see what happens. If I reach my goal and still haven't got prego, I'll consult my ob for next steps. Best wishes to you in whatever you decide and *baby dust*!

Yes you should stop TTC at this time. I know for me stopping was a hard decision to make but it was the best. I lost 156 pounds and all my fertility labs were finally normal and I got pregnant in the 4th cycle of ttc. My daughter is 12 days old today. It was worth the wait, you'll see. Good luck

Four days post surgery. I am sipping as fast as I can and getting NO WHERE near the goal of 60 - 80 grams of protein or the 64 oz of liquids. I just feel FULL. I don't know if it can still be the gas build up (I would think by now that would be gone) but it is a struggle to drink. And so far I have not had the nausea or spasms and don't want to wander into that territory by pushing too hard with liquids. I about passed out today as it was my most "strenuous" day. Went from second story to basement for shower and I was sure I was going to pass out. Looking back on my last few days I have had a total of less than 1000 calories. Am I just not getting enough nourishment in me? Once again a friday where I can't get ahold of the doc until Monday rolls back around so I am hoping maybe someone here has some experience on how to keep energy going. I do have fibromyalgia too and that may be where some added fatigue comes into play. How did you all fair with the goals the week after surgery?

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

I'm in Houston so kind of near you and had the sleeve in Dec. Down 61 lbs. Feeling better. Was definitely worth it. I hope the everything is going well for you. Update us when you can!

I am back home after my bypass surgery in Tiajuana. I'm post op day 4. Everything went great! I guess I'm one of the lucky ones who have not encountered much pain at all, no nausea thus far and I'm having no problem keeping down broths and water. Thank you for your well wishes. I cant wait to keep up this journey and have a chance at better health and simply better quality of life. I know there will be bumps in the road ahead, and everything won't be peaches and cream, but at least I have a great start so far. 😍

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

      2. Doughgurl

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜
