I was banded less than a week ago and I've lost 16 pounds. Is this scary/normal? Should I be worried? I havent had much of an appetite and I've been trying to drink some Protein but when I drink too much I want to puke. Should I call my doctor and voice my concerns? Or is this normal from being on liquids? Help a sista out.

Hi Bri!

Nope- I had the same thing happen. I was banded on the 13th and I lost 15 pounds in about a week. Now I've plateaued and have been stuck in the same weight area for a week. I'm hoping it will pick up again!!

I was banded over a year ago and the same thing happened to me I lost 16 lbs in a week. It as mainly Water weight. The weight lost will eventually level off. Losing 1 to 2 lbs is the healthiest and the lapband doesn't produce those dramatic weightlosses as gastric bypass. The further you get in your weightloss journey the more your weightloss will be determined by working out and building muscle mass. Remember a lb of fat weighs as much as a lb of muscle the difference is a lb of muscle is denser. The more muscle you have the more calories you will naturally burn. Sorry about rambling about muscle, I am really getting into weightlifting.

Thanks! I'm just worried cause I am actually pretty muscular and im not sure if I'm losing muscle. I have noticed a dramatic change in my stomach area fat wise. So maybe I should just take it for what it is. I do need more Vitamin intake though. I'm just not sure if I'm doing this right. Don't wanna mess up.

You are still on liquids; it is pretty normal. You will probably plateau for awhile, or lose slower once you start eating. Once you start excersing again, your clothes might get looser before you show scale loss! Good luck, Karen...We call that NSV, non-scale victories.

Wow, I have had the exact opposite! The day of my surgery I weighed myself before we left to the surgery center and I weighed 256, that after when we got home from I weighed myself again and I weighed 263. It took a week to lose those 7lbs I gained the day of surgery and I havent lost anymore. I hear all these people talk about losing a lot of weight their first couple of weeks after surgery and I have LOST NONE! I am 2 weeks out and feel VERY DISCOURAGED!

Yes I did have some issues they stopped thankfully! Now I can keep stuff down. I've been eating creamy Soup and trying to drink Protein shakes. I've been eating very little. My body can not tell if I'm hungry or sore so it's hard because I know i should be consuming more Protein.< /p>

I was told to get 6 8oz glasses of Water a day and 70 grams of Protein (half of your ideal weight). If you are doing that and tossing in a chewable Vitamin it is all good!

I am day 14 and STILL behind on Protein intake. It's hard for me to get down that much. In the morning now I make a heavier drink: 16 oz of skim lactaid (16g protein) milk and 2 scoops of Protein Powder. So in doing the math 16+26+26= 68g protein. I have yet to get the WHOLE thing down in a day, but it's getting closer each day. I found that making this ONE big drink is helping me get the protein in. When I was doing the smaller servings I couldn't get it down. Just keep working on it!

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
