Lap Band Portion Plate

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I'm looking for a "dummy approved" portion plate....I want to make it as easy as possibly for myself until I can formulated habits. I found this http://www.lapbandtools.com/products/Portion-Control-Plate.html which is awesome, but it seems like they are only sold in bulk.

Other portion plates that I have found put the larger emphasis on the veggies as opposed to Proteins ( for our sake).... has anyone found a similar plate?

You can buy these one at a time or bulk - simply change the quantity in the drop down box

The default setting is set to 25 units

But why bother? Simply get an 8 inch plate and mark it out with an indelible marking pen

A heck of a lot cheaper

If you try to purchase one, it tells you that you must buy @ least 25 otherwise i would have purchased just the one.

Being an old fan of hand thrown pottery, I've shopped for various single-serving pieces that I have pre-measured, and can absolutely fill up (providing that visual cue) while still staying in my guidelines. And after using a measuring cup carefully the first few months I got a good idea of Portion Control. Every now & then I recheck just to make sure.

Constancy and control is a learned habit. Whatever tools we find to make it easier to comply is a good idea.

I've got a hand-thrown 'Soup dish' with a handle on it that takes 1 1/2 cups level to the top. Works for an astounding amount of meals. And the "size of my palm" for 3.5-4oz hard protein" does very handy guide line too.

It helped me at first using a smaller spoon too.

And 4-6 oz clay mugs, instead of my old 16oz++ monsters.

Like Jack, I really enjoy my collection of small side plates that I eat off! I have an everyday dinner setting of plain white plates that the family uses and everythign to match - a variety of tiny bowls and such - just the kind of thing you can buy the pieces separately for. I use them for Cereal and yogurt and such, I know their capacity and my whole family eats off smaller plates (but not as small as me) - but I have a collection of various ones that I've seen and liked, some meals look great on a red plate, and a stir fry on a black plate is quite special, all the bright vegies lol. So yeah, just a bread and butter plate does the trick for me.

Its just for me, I couldnt afford to indulge my crockery obsession for the whole family! And I get bored, I wouldnt want to buy a whole set and just have to use that anyway. It might sound a bit unhinged, but it really adds a bit of zing to ordinary everyday meals for me.

Hmmm, I dabble in pottery. I may just have found a new project to work on.

I bought a Baby portion plate at Wal_mart its like the divided picnic plates(which my Dr suggested I buy when I first started going to her.) It helps alot I am using it tonight for dinner at a matter of fact. I also use baby silverware when at home, but I am seriously thinking about putting a set in my purse after I get a fill that keeps my bites down.

I bought a child's divided plate at target. It was in their dish section and it has three sections. I use the large rectangular section for my Protein and the two small squares for my veggies. It works great and also has a rubber cover to seal it with so you can take lunch to work in it!

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
