My dr said to leave the strip on and let them fall off naturally. That way we know that everything is healed. I have alot of itching also and I am on Day 6. Only 2 have fallen off so far.

i think mine were on for about 3 weeks and then i started taking them off...they itched so bad and they itched worse after i took them off. the skin around the incisions where the strips were was all red and irritated, but the incisions themselves looked great. i used a little neosporin, even tho they said i didnt need to, mostly to moisten the area.

My surgeon removed all but one of mine at my one week check

I think mine said 12 days for the clear plasters that were on.

My doctor said until they fall off by themselves. At my 15th day appointment, I still had 3 on which he removed.

usually you just let them fall off...trim the corners as they peel off and otherwise leave them alone. I have heard bad stories from people who tried to peel them off!

Mine stayed on for about 2 weeks. But yes, my stomach was itchy itchy itchy the first week. Let them fall off naturally though.

did you have the Patches over the strips? i had my surgery on tues (12/13) and i have Patches over the strips. I think (coming out of anesthesia) I was told i could take the patches off after 48 hours but I have no idea bout the strips. They aren't bothering me yet so I guess I'll leave them alone. I have to go back in a week.

Hi Everyone, I am newly banded 12/20/2011. I was reading the above post about strips over the incisions. I do not have any strips over my incisions and was kinda confused as to why not? My incisions actually look pretty horrible. They look like the surgeon just pinched the skin together and glued it! I was also curious as to the number and size of incisions. does this all vary by Surgeon??

They will fall off eventually, It takes about fourteen days for your wounds to close (wife is a nurse). Pulling them off too early can cause your wounds to open.

I have 6 incisions, all different sizes. I was banded on 12/13 and none of the strips have come off yet. They sure do itch though!

Thanx for your post Lanie. I have 5 incisions. Mine range in size as well from about an inch to about 3 1/2 inches which I was surprised by...... Mine only had a dark looking glue over them though and no strips. We were told not to shower for 4 days post op so we didn't wash the glue off! Idk I've had several abdominal surgeries and that was a first for me.

Shellie, it sounds like your surgeon used durabond. It is a glue. I believe that it will also eventually fall off for you just like the steristrips I have. I have 5 incisions. Mine are not terribly itchy yet. But my port site stings every once in awhile.

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
