Recommended Posts

I start my pre-op on dec 21! My b-day party is on dec 30th! My surgery is on jan 4th! If I do really good on my pre-op, Can I drink a little for my party, just that one day?

I would think yes, just don't overdo it you know? You should be okay just for that one night...especially since its before surgery.

why?

Seriously... this is early on in your journey...why cheat now? Just asking....001_huh.gif

The drink wont hurt you physically .... but one of the benefits of doing the 2 week liquid is not only to shrink your liver so your Doc can see whats going on in your stomach during surgery but to get your head right.... to get you used to realizing that you cannot live like you have been living and be successfull. You have made a huge life changing decision. Embrace that and start celebrating that in a short period of time your hard work will pay off.

I would take this weekend... have every food you can think of that you might miss... enjoy beverages you know you will miss and have an early bday party so that by 12/21 you have it all out of your system and are ready to jump in 100%. Otherwise you set yourself up for failure.

Last year I started my liquid the day before Thanksgiving... was banded 2 weeks later and at my first solid food on New Years Day! It stink....but guess what... this holiday season I am down 149 lbs and plan on having a few cocktails and maybe a cookie here and there.... but since I am 50ish lbs from goal I wont go crazy.... I dont want this to take any longer than it has too. LOL

Good luck!

If it were me, I'd not want to risk it. The point if the pre-op is to shrink the liver, like a previous poster said. Alcohol goes through the liver. It also lowers inhibitions and might make you more tempted to eat that evening and really blow the pre-op diet.

Some surgeons don't require a pre-op diet, but yours does. Mine did, too. Mine also said if he got inside and my liver was not in shape for the surgery, he'd either have to do it open (huge incision and recovery) or would close me up and no band that day.

That's my opinion, take it for what it's worth and have a Happy Birthday. :)

Depends on your Dr.'s requirements.

My Dr. did not prescribe what I can or cannot eat/drink during the pre-op diet. He simply said I must loose X amount of weight prior to surgery, or he would not perform it. Simple. Didn't care how I did it, just as long as I did.

My surgery was a Monday, I had my final meeting and weigh-in with him on the Friday before. Lost 20lbs, all was good. See you Monday morning at the hospital.

Saturday, I went out and had my LAST MEAL, all and everything I wanted to eat - drink. Knowing that that would be the last time, which is was.

Sunday I fasted all day. Nothing but Clear liquids.

Monday was surgery - no problems.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
