Still having lots of gas after 10 weeks post op

Recommended Posts

I am 10 weeks post op and still having lots of gas. I know Protein drinks do it to me but I do not have them often. I am staying on my program, eating sensibly, drinking my Water, and getting in my protein. Weight loss has been slow but pretty steady. I had the shoulder gas pains post op and this is not it. Just plain old gas! My Dr put me on Flagyl for a week and told me this happens to some people. It's because of the drastic change to our digestion. He thought that would do the trick. It did not. I tried Gas X and it did nothing. I do not drink carbonated drinks and I am out of ideas. Has anyone out there had this? I just got some papaya enzymes and hope that will help. I have taken Beano in the past so I guess I will try it again too. Any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Blessings,

GG

It's kind of old fashioned, but bicarbonate of soda before your

drink may help, if you can get past the taste.

This isn't painful gas. I had that post op and a heating pad did help. This is just like the gas you have if you eat Beans or cabbage. But, I cannot tie it to any foods that I eat.

Are you eating a lot of sugar free stuff? Sugar free sweeteners make me gassy so I just try to stay away from Jello, pudding... Any of that stuff.

I have to admit that I still have gas. Attic and basement so to speak. I swear I belch louder than a truck driver!

I find when I drink my full allotment of Water, it's reduced somewhat

Try a probiotic, it seemed to realy help me. They have one that is like a piece of chocolate 10 cals ,1 carb, I got it at Walmart. The packageing looks like a pint of ice cream.

Healthy delights ProBiotic bites dark chocolate. A Probiotic is sort of like yogart on steroids, each piece has one Billion live cultures. Live cultures if you dont know already, are good bacteria that eat up or kill or something bad bacteria.

Unfortunately gas seems to be part of life for me now! It's a lot better now, but in the few months after surgery I belched louder than my fiance and the gas didn't know which end to come out of (TMI I know, sorry). It should get better, so hang in there!

I used to not be a gassy person at all before the lapband. I got my band in June, and being gassy just seems to be how the world works for me these days, especially the burping. Burping was painful for the first month I had the band, but now I just burp a lot... with no pain. It isn't too big of a deal although sometimes embarrassing.

Well I'm only a week post op but the health food store sold me catnip leaf/fennel seed extract and said this should help. Said fennel seed tea helps but they were out. Hasn't helped yet but I just tried it for the first time this afternoon.

Let me know if it helps. I got some Probiotics this afternoon. Since you are barely post op yous might go away. Walk, walk, walk and try a heating pad. That helped me a lot. Blessings on your new journey.

Welcome to banded life :) . 2 + years post-op and still have gas. I would bet 95% of us have more gas and the other 5% just lie and say they don't :P

If it's the painful post op gas hopefully it will subside. Mine lasted about a week. The shoulder pain was the worst. Keep up that walking and I'll let you know if the Probiotics help.

You are a hoot! Probably correct about the 95%. LOL Whatever the side effects it will be worth it. You have done an incredible job. Congratulations!

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
