Surgery friday....freaking out

Recommended Posts

I am so scared :( I just all the sudden got scared. I think I am scared I won't wake up. I've had two c-sections and a gall bladder out in three years, you'd think I would be used to surgery, but I am not. What if I have some undetected heart condition and die while under!?

Where is all this anxiety coming from?

Hi! Mine and my sister's surgery is scheduled for Friday too! I am also very nervous, never had surgery before for ANYTHING, not even a tooth, so I have no idea how i'll react to the anesthesia. Praying and hoping for an easy, smooth, quick surgery with no unexpected issues. Good luck to you, too!

I had never had surgery for anything. I never even had stitches. I was freaking out just like you last Thursday. You know what, the surgery was the easiest part of this whole thing. Up to the surgery, you had to make the decisions, be in control. As soon as you step into the hospital for your surgery, you are no longer in charge. Just give it up to the doctors and nurses. I am never a passive person, but I decided to just let them do their thing. And it was over before I knew it.

You should ask your primary doc for some anxiety meds, just to get you through until after surgery. Maybe even try something calming over the counter (of course, make sure it is okay to take it before surgery.) I considered doing this myself, but now my surgery is 2 days away so it's too late! I will drink a lot of chamomile tea and think calming thoughts. Ugh.

I had my surgery on Tues the 25th and all went fine. I'm home recovering now. Once they got my IV placed I felt at ease and ready to go. After the PA gave me the happy juice in the pre-op room I remember nothing until I woke up after surgery. My wife said I was happy and pretty entertaining as they wheeled me off to surgery.

I was really scared too. I talked to my therapist about my fears - one of them being not waking up after surgery. And she said. "Ok, so what if that happens. Then what" And I said "I guess I wouldn't know it" and she said "Exactly". lol after that I wasn't fearful about that anymore. Try and relax, it will go great! :-)

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
