Surgery friday....freaking out

I am so scared :( I just all the sudden got scared. I think I am scared I won't wake up. I've had two c-sections and a gall bladder out in three years, you'd think I would be used to surgery, but I am not. What if I have some undetected heart condition and die while under!?

Where is all this anxiety coming from?

I am a very logical person so I don't know where all this freaking out is coming from!!!

Everything would be fine, Just remeber the pay off would be GREAT...

I stressed about this same thing! I think its normal. Hang in there...this is a GOOD thing!

Those are normal jitters...u will be fine.:-)

Hi! Mine and my sister's surgery is scheduled for Friday too! I am also very nervous, never had surgery before for ANYTHING, not even a tooth, so I have no idea how i'll react to the anesthesia. Praying and hoping for an easy, smooth, quick surgery with no unexpected issues. Good luck to you, too!

I had never had surgery for anything. I never even had stitches. I was freaking out just like you last Thursday. You know what, the surgery was the easiest part of this whole thing. Up to the surgery, you had to make the decisions, be in control. As soon as you step into the hospital for your surgery, you are no longer in charge. Just give it up to the doctors and nurses. I am never a passive person, but I decided to just let them do their thing. And it was over before I knew it.

I too am wicked scared...I never had surgery before either!!!! I am a nervous wreck I think the same thing omg what if I dont wake up, what if I flip out from anesthia, etc......My surgery is MONDAY omg I am a nervous wreck and on top of that I have panic disorder. What do we do to help??? I am open for suggestions to find some peace in this :)

You should ask your primary doc for some anxiety meds, just to get you through until after surgery. Maybe even try something calming over the counter (of course, make sure it is okay to take it before surgery.) I considered doing this myself, but now my surgery is 2 days away so it's too late! I will drink a lot of chamomile tea and think calming thoughts. Ugh.

I had my surgery on Tues the 25th and all went fine. I'm home recovering now. Once they got my IV placed I felt at ease and ready to go. After the PA gave me the happy juice in the pre-op room I remember nothing until I woke up after surgery. My wife said I was happy and pretty entertaining as they wheeled me off to surgery.

hey, guys this is normal... I too almost walked out the day of... but then I remembered who is in control...GOD he got you.. He would have not brought you to it...if he wasn't going to see you through it!!! congrats

I was really scared too. I talked to my therapist about my fears - one of them being not waking up after surgery. And she said. "Ok, so what if that happens. Then what" And I said "I guess I wouldn't know it" and she said "Exactly". lol after that I wasn't fearful about that anymore. Try and relax, it will go great! :-)

Hi. I was curious to know how your surgery day went.

It went pretty well. I had some complications with my part of my left lung collapsing, but I take responsbility for it. I had a cough and I didn't tell them. I didn't want them to cancel the surgery. That was dumb. I am ok now, just recuperating trying not to eat solid foods :)
