They Submitted for Gastric Bypass instead of the Band

So I am a little confused since the insurance coordinator submitted my paperwork for Gastric Bypass and not Lap Band and I was approved last Friday for the wrong procedure.....REALLY! I tried not to be mad and remained calm but apparently it takes 2-4 days for approval for GB and 4-6 weeks for the Band. I have Highmark Blue Cross Blue Shield of Western PA. She thought since I meet all the requirements for GB then it should be easy for the insurance to change the procedure code-If not, then I will have to wait another 4-6 weeks.....YIKES!!!! (I had my surgery scheduled for October 26th too) I almost wonder if they did this on purpose?

Whatever you choose, you'll probably have it for the rest of your life. I know you're

impatient to get on with it, but don't let yourself get browbeaten into something

you don't want. If you have to wait a while, that's just the way it'll have to be.

You said you want the band, so holler your head off to make them change things.

Lap band surgery, being cheaper and safer than any other, it seems strange

that it would take longer for approval. You'd think it would be faster.

Four to six weeks will just give you more time to get ready for your surgery.

I hope you get what you really want, and the best of luck to you.

Ditto.

They were able to change the procedure under the original authorization...YIPPEE!! I now will be having surgery officially October 26th and start my pre op diet tomorrow. Thanks for the support.

Congratulations! You have a good surgeon and a good hospital, so things should go well. Good luck.
