getting my first fill w/dr Spiegel

Recommended Posts

Hello fellow bandsters!!

I'm going today to get my first fill with Dr Spiegel. I will be having it done at the surgicenter where I had my surgery. For some reason my insurance company prefers for us to have it done there. I'm hoping that since it won't be done at his office it won't be so much like a cattle drive. We'll see...

Good Luck with your first fill....and yes I'm part of a cattle drive too...:couch2: I was banded April '05 and have had several fills since and have realized that my body is changing so much that it's a new ball game every time. I just make sure to take it really slow at first and then eventually I'll figure it out. Then watch the pounds fall. Best to you!

hey sister!

i am going to be banded by dr. spivak on march 13. i am self pay, so i do not have to deal with the insurance politics. (but the paperwork said that one year of fills at the surgery center are covered)

can you tell me where the surgery center is?:couch2:

Hi - I am Donna in No Calif, I was banded on 12/29/05. I am going for my first fill on Friday 2/10. I have gained back 5 pounds since surgery - yikes. I fill like I could eat normally (which isn't good). Will this fill stop this feeling and help control my hunger? Thanks !

Donna, ABSOLUTLY!!! If your fill is done under fluoro, I feel it is more productive, but any fill at this point is going to cause restriction. Don't worry I gained weight during the month or so between surgery and my first fill. Just be sure to follow your Dr's instructions and take it slow. Good Luck!

Roni, the SurgiCenter is great and is close to Dr Spivak's office. One neat thinig is that the SurgiCenter will pay for two nights' stay at a wonderful hotel that's about 1/4 mile away (all rooms are suites, with two TV's, a fridge and a microwave). I live only about 12 miles from there and the SurgerCenter paid for two nights' stay at the hotel for me -- the night before and the night after (since I didnt have a ride home the day of the surgery). You can get the directions from mapquest.

How did your first fill go with Dr. Spiegel? He likes to do the fills hisself so that he can see how your progress is going. I think patients benefit by having there fills done even if there alot more patients in the waiting area at the same time. It is like having support from all the other patients at the same time.

Got my fill done 1 week & 2 days ago. I have to say that I like talking with everyone out in the waiting area. Kind of like a support group. Dr. Spiegel was quick & to the point, but it was fine. He was 2 hours LATE, but I'm sure he had a good reason. I think I'm gonna need another fill pretty quick. As long as I go slow I can eat tons. I had 4 chicken strips from Jack in the Box today for dinner. I could have had the last one but I made myself stop. That's too much, right?

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
