Cheri, I so appreciate your advice and sharing your experience with the band and being banded in November. It's reminded me how incredibly important it will be to stay focused on working out as much as possible after surgery to maximize my weight loss. It's not the ideal time to be banded for me, living in Boston where I hate to be cold and tend to get a little depressed and hibernate in the winter; I will have to really fight those SAD tendencies to be successful. I am lucky in one regard: my family doesn't live near me and the holidays are very low key with just me and my guy, and he's not a big eater anyway! I'm having surgery on the morning of November 9th, and start my 2 week pre-op liquid diet next week.

Let's do this, people! :D

Thought that I would tell you that I have clinical depression and it did not seems to cause me any trouble with weightloss after surgery. Lost 84 lbs. Still really no hunger 2+ years later.

I had a good 7 or 8 months of no hunger whatsoever after I got through the first month. The first month people are gonna be hungry so just accept it and plan ahead. Buy you some movies you won't watch, or books that you won't read until that month begins, new fingernail polish, polish every night if you have to, fix your photo albums, buy some special bubble bath and bath products Just something to keep your mind off of the fact that you are hungry. I would go to bed with my stomach growling. So find a project or something you can be doing during this month to make you feel special. Because what you are doing is so worth it.

After you get through that first month or 6 weeks you will be so happy you did it. But don't let your depression get you down. One reason I decided to get the LapBand is because of the depression. I could not handle dealing with that and the weight and I am doing everything I know to do to help with the depression, but the weight being gone does help.

All of you sound so excited and happy I keep coming back here to read and take it all in. I know you all will do so good and as I said I will be praying for the November bandsters to do good before during and after surgery. You all seem to be bonding with each other, such a GOOD idea and it will help you all so much, support, support can't get too much.

Also it is okay to be nervous it is surgery and it is something new and seems like your future is unknown. But it will be filled with feeling better, smaller clothes, healthier bodies and minds, workouts that make you feel so good (some during, some after), compliments, energy, healthier eating plan and so much more.

Again good luck to you all!

Cheri

My surgery is 11-11-11. Kind of a neat date to have as an anniversary. Glad to be a part of the November Bansters. Currently on my pre-op diet, which is not fun, but I'm hoping it will get a little bit better day-by-day. Thanks for all the great words of encouragement and expectations Cheri. I'm only on day 2 of the liquid diet and I can already say that it is one of the hardest things I've ever done.

One question, how much do you work out every week?

I will be banded on Wednesday, November 2rd 2011!! 4 days away! I'm very anxious, nervous, starting on fear and doubt. It seemed so long getting here, now it seems like it's creeping on me so fast! I'm sure the doubts and questions are normal, which is why I love lapbandtalk! Everyone has so much advice! Wish me luck!

Hi!

My surgery is scheduled for November 11th. I can't wait!

Aria3, looks like we have the same surgeon and are having the surgery the same day. Good luck to you. Maybe I'll see you surgery day or at one of the support groups. I'm mostly going to do the noon support group because I live in Edgewood and the evening one is just too late for me. I'm excited too, particularly right now to have this whole liquid diet thing over with.

Hey Aria3 and Desert Rat!! I so wanted that date but my doctor, our doctor will be in NM doing you!! I live in the DFW area and had that date in my head for months. That's when I wanted my anniversary but by the time the insuarance company got around to approving me I was told Dr. Smith will be out of town that date. LOL! How funny is it that I ran across you two on this site. Well, I'm happy for you two. You got a great date and a great doctor. Please keep in touch and let me know how you are doing as I will have Dr. Smith do me on 12/19. :)

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
