How long does restriction last???

Recommended Posts

I'm becoming a post-a-holic on this site...lol. So I got a fill the beginning of the month and for the first time felt restriction. I couldn't drink more than tiny sips at a time or I felt like a elephant was sitting my my chest. Which was a problem for me b/c I just couldn't get enough Water in and I'm prone to kidney stones...need I say more. So anyway I woke up this morning and was able to drink normal : ) now I still get full really fast off small amounts and I don't drink while eating. My question is how long does that level of restriction last usually?? I mean we know it goes away or else we wouldn't need fills but I'm just trying to get an idea as this was only my second fill. Could I have been a tad bit too tight?? Thanks

I was banded December 3, 2010 and have only had 2 fills -- the last one in March. I still feel restricted almost 7 months later. I think some get adjustments too often and then have issues. I am still losing - have lost 80 pounds and am 4 away from my goal - yahoo!! When you first get a fill it feels very tight and you may need to ease in with liquids and then smooshies -- if you can't eat or drink much after a few weeks, your band may be too tight. I think as long as you are losing and not eating too much or feeling too tight you should be good for several months -- that has been my experience anyway. Good luck!

I would say whenever I got good restriction I would lose it after losing about 15 to 20 pounds because I think you lose fat that is on your stomach under the band.

Thanks for the replies. I feel so much better now that I can drink normal amounts of Water. I could tell I wasn't getting enough with those tiny sips here and there. Congrats Bardy 80 lbs!!! That's amazing : )

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
