I honestly don't miss it and I used to drink at least 6 Diet Pepsi's every day. It was difficult in the beginning but I got over it pretty quickly. My daughter was drinking one the other day and I grabbed it and took a sip and thought it was the most disgusting thing ever. Wondered how I ever drank it before.

So what are some things that you drink now, how long have you been banded?

I guess I'm one of the "bad" ones who drink an occasional soda. I rarely drink diet anymore tho - because I usually have about 5 sips of the stuff maybe once a week, I figure might as well have the real stuff. And I read that most people who drink diet soda are fat. I do miss it with a burger or pizza (yes, I still eat those things, maybe about 6 bites) but since it makes me throw up if I drink after eating, I do mind that rule!

I'm not sure what soda is sposed to do to the band, I pictured my band exploding during the first 6 mths after having my band in which I was terrified of trying soda. I've never finished a whole can of soda tho. A few sips does me well - give me the burps really badly tho.

Good luck!

Marci

Mostly coffee, iced tea, Water and koolade made with Splenda. I was banded 6/10/08.

I MISS DIET COKE!...or maybe I just think I do.

I have not had one in 3 months. Most days I am great, but I dont drink coffee or tea so Diet Coke was my only source of caffeine and some mornings boy do I need some caffeine to get me going!

I drink Water and Ocean Spray On the Go. Its like Crystal Light, but comes in cool flavors like Cran-Grape that to me taste exactly like the juice.

Honestly, I didn't drink a lot of soda before the lapband. It was a easy transition for me. Every once in a while, I might get a Diet Mt Dew but it usually goes to waste. The majority of the time, I drink Vitamin Water or Diet Lipton Tea in the bottle. I really don't crave sodas but I never had. I think I waste way more than I drankrolleyes.gif

I was a Diet Dr. Pepper addict. Now that I've been off the juice for a year (ha!), it tastes disgusting. I wouldn't drink it now if I could.

I used diet sweet tea (made with splenda) to replace it at first, which worked really well. Now I mostly drink Water and crystal-light type drinks. Oh, and lots of coffee.

I used to drink lots of Diet Pepsi. I haven't had a carbonated soft drink since last November, a few days before I was banded. I honestly don't miss it. I drink iced tea with Splenda now. Or Crystal Light. Or even plain ol' ice Water.

I've been off of all sodas since my surgery on 3/09/09. I understand wanting the taste & burny feel at the back of the throat. About 8 months after banding, I really wanted some, so I took some, poured a little into a cup and gave the rest of the can to my hubby. Drank a few sips and it was enough to satisfy me.

I don't recommend drinking them a lot or frequently, as it could possibly lead to a dilated pouch. Of course, it is your body, your band and your decision.

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
