Had my surgery on the 25th, at my first follow up on the 8th I had lost 27 pounds thanks to the liquid pre and post op diets. I was supposed to do liquids for the first 2 weeks but that did not last. After day 8 I was so hungry all the time that I could not even sleep that night. Started mushys then and when I had my appt I got to start solids 3 days later. I got 3 wows when I was in for my follow up, 2 from the nurse about how much weight I had lost, and the other for how well the incision site has healed. Then I got 1 more from the Dr. about my healing. I was told not to expect to lose any more weight till after my fill. Well, my goal is to lose at least 4 more pounds before I go back on the th of October. I have not had a single soda since my surgery, I have switched to only sugar free drinks, and I now only eat whole foods, nothing processed, and I practice eating for when I get that first fill. Chewing right, eating slow. This will work for me and I am glad to be through the first 2 weeks that sucked. I am positive that if we all put the effort into this we will get the results we want!

Wow, you are really doing well. Congratulations and welcome to the A11 thread. My surgery was also on the 25th and I've lost 13 lbs so you WIN!!! Hang in there with us, we're all in Bander Hell.

Blessings,

GG

Hi guys!

Tomorrow I have an appointment for a fill. It will be my first time and I am nervous about the needle. Technically, I got my first fill on my surgery day so this will really be my second adjustment. Hope this time makes a difference in my hunger. I cant wait until I get this band adjusted to really start working for me!

Hope you are all having a great weekend! B)

I was nervous about the needle also. But was really no worse than an IV and didn't last long. I still have a bruise (9-16) but didn't hurt at all like I thought it would.

I had my first last week and it was not big deal. The lidocaine stung a little but didn't feel the needle for the fill at all. I'll say a little prayer for you. Let us know how it goes.

GG

We went out to eat yesterday. My first time since being banded. I haven't had a fill, so I can eat most anything. Had some red snapper. It was so good. I ate about half of it, some of a baked potato and some Soup. I ate too much, I'm sure, but I brought more than half home. But I gained 2 pounds. Hope it was from salt. Back to regular small portions today.

Don't watch the scale so often. It will all come off....and probably wasn't from your meal. I went out for the first real meal this weekend also. My husband and I split a dinner. I had a few mixed greens with a tattle of cornbread, a sppon of cole slaw, a couple of small pieces of catfish and about a 4th of a baked potato. I at slowly and stopped at the full spot. Would have loved to have taken the band out and feasted but was proud I knew to stop.

Exercise today like there is no tomorrow! Giving God the Praise and Glory for it all!!

Sounds like to me you did well eating out. When I attended Weight Watchers meeting they always said what we eat and when we exercise does not show up for 2-3 days afterwards. You had fun and now it sounds like you are back on track. Good job.

Wow, you did really well too. Congratulations. i've eaten out several times and only do about half of my regular portions. Hubby & I usually bring half of our meals home. We both happen to like leftovers. LOL Yes I agree, I give Him all the glory all the time!

ms.lady

You are doing so well, don't be discouraged. I would come put you out of your misery but you live too far away! LOL Seriously, can you eat more often or a little more each meal so you are not so hungry? How many calories a day are you eating and are they good calories and are you drinking?

Blesings,

GG

I eat anywhere between 700 - 900 a day, there have been a couple days the where a I have eaten more. I am eating a nice size portions for the meals and decent to good calories. However I am struggling with Proteins and Water, so maybe if I can work harder at those it will help. I go for my first appointment for a fill on tomorrow, I will see how that goes. Thank you and I enjoy reading your posts on the forum.

Ms. Lady if you like tuna and Tilapia those are great proteins. I have tuna in water with a touch of mayo and pickle relish....it goes down good and great for you. At dinner I bake or grill Tilapia I use lemon juice on it and pico de gallo. It is yummy. I add a very small baked potato to that and I am plenty full. I use flavors for my water and never touch anything else to drink. Great Valu brands of flavors, Wylers and MiO are all great. good luck with your fill. Let us know how you do. God Bless!! ;)

Be sure and ask the Dr how many calories and how much water and Protein you should be getting. My Dr told me 1100 and 60 grams of protein a day. You might be putting yourself into starvation mode. Let us know how the fill goes tomorrow.

GG

I just had my first fill. It wasnt so bad. Whoever said it compares to getting an IV was right on. My doctor says I now have 3 cc's. He also did an ultrasound and checked the band and my liver. Says everything looks great. I was really surprised because I havent thought I had been losing any weight. They said I lost over 4 pounds since my last appointment!! That made me so happy! :D So for the rest of the evening I am supposed to be on liquids only. He says I can start eating regular again tomorrow morning. My doctor almost didnt want to give me a fill because I lost weight. I made sure to tell him how hungry I get between meals. I have to be in a wedding in 3 weeks and I am really hoping for the scale to get moving!! Sending happy weight loss thoughts to you all! :P

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
