Hi ! I had my first fill today, done under the scope.

It was really nothing at all and over before I knew it.

I must be one if the strange ones...I didn't even think to ask how much he put in.

He did tell me...liquids for 3 days, soft food for another 3 days and then on day 6 I can Eat regular food.

This just seems longer than what most Dr. 's suggest.

I am new to the site. I am married with a 16 month old little boy. I started my pre-op diet on August 5th, surgery on August 19th. Have lost a total of 43 pounds. I am very happy with my decision, and would do it a thousand times over!!

Scheduled for my first fill on Saturday. Any words of advice?

Tomorrow at 9 I go in for the first fill. I am very ready for it. I have been able to eat anything lately and it's been a chore to keep my intake low. Will power was not a strength of mine anyway.

At the last visit I was down 27 pounds, we'll see how much this time. I don't have a scale at home so I can't obsess over it.

You are being way too hard on yourself. Could you tell me what kind of words of advice you would give ME if I told you that I had a Protein Shake and half a tuna sandwich and felt like I was failing miserably? I bet your words would be kind. You need to learn to be as kind to yourself as you are to others. Even the walnuts are not that bad. You are learning! If you are taking in new knowledge and adjusting your lifestyle how can that be failure? Obviously you have not hit the "sweet spot" yet but it is coming. Soon enough you will look back on this and laugh.........if you can even remember it! I am proud of you even if you are not.

I did not have the the best weekend with my choices of foods (although I did stay within my max of 1200 calories). Thus far I have not seen a change on the scale, but I feel horrible. I feel like I am losing control, I'm so hungry! Now that I am logging everything I eat I noticed how things that I once was low in calories, fat, carbs, etc are not. For example I always thought pecans were not high in calories so in order to not eat any unhealthy Snacks and to control my hunger I decided to get a 2 oz cup of pecans from the cafeteria at work. I had a couple and went to log them on MFP and saw how many calories and decided not to proceed. Maybe it just the guilt from this weekend. I drank a Atkins shake for Breakfast and half a tuna sandwich for lunch today and I still fill like I am failing. I pray tomorrow will be a better day!

I'm so happy it went well for you. All the Dr's tell us different things about what to eat and when. I agree it's strange. I had my second fill today and I am to do liquids today and back to mushies tomorrow and then back to food if it all goes OK. My Doc only put in 1/4 cc for me so that might be why.

Blessings,

GG

The first fill is so exciting. Time to get that band to do it's job. You are already doing so well, congratulations. It is wise to not have a scale. I should get my hubby to hide mine. I get on it too much.

Blessings,

GG

Welcome txnikki,

You are really doing well! Congratulatons. I had my second fill today and all I felt was a little stick of the lidocaine and then he was finished. The first fill he flushed out all the stuff in there and put it all back in. Not sure why he did that but it took a little longer. Nothing to it really. I don't have much restriction unless I eat fast or not chew enough. My Doc says that's what he wants, I should not feel the band and be able to get to the green zone. Let us know how it goes.

Blessings,

GG

Ahhh...so 2nd fill today. 2cc added for a total of 5cc in a 14cc band. Ugh. In my head I picture that little band just sagging there and being held up only by stitches. As I walked out of the office I thought "What would happen if I went in and asked for more?" Has anyone ever done that or know of anyone who has?

So I was boasting about losing another pound and the scale saying 178...and this morning it was 180. I hate that it fluctuates with those couple pounds---drives me crazy! I am a scale obsessor, so seeing it change daily is nuts!

I also was saying almost a month ago how the fill was no big deal, didnt feel the needle at all...well NOT THIS TIME! I felt that sucker go in, come out, go in again (doc "missed the damn thing") and come back out...not pleasant, not excruciating...but not pleasant. The area is a tad sore when I press on it (and yes I know "Well genius! Dont press on it!" Ha!) And I noticed that I have 2 small holes in my skin (from where he stuck me) and how disturbing is this-- They are about an inch apart! I have decided that as soon as I get my next fill (My cost included 3 fills), I'm going to see about going to another doc for my fills. There have been so many things that I am less than pleased about so yes, any little thing I will pick apart and complain about :P

Sooo...we will see how this little fill goes, hopefully better than my last because I only lost 2lbs with that one

That's identical to the instructions from my surgeon when I got my first fill. It seemed a bit extreme, but oh well, I'm compliant so I did what my doctor told me to do! :D

I've hit 10kg lost, which is 1/4 of the way to my goal! So proud of myself. And I've actually lost more - I jumped on the scales tonight and weighed less than I did this morning, even though I'd just had a big drink of water! Can't wait to weigh in again next Monday!!!

First fill done this morning. Painless and easy for. I found out I have a 14cc band and today it had 2cc put. She said she wanted to take it easy I was noticing a difference and have had good success so for.

Total weight loss now is at 37 pounds, I dropped 10 more in the past couple of weeks. I have dropped 2 pants sizes already, good thing I kept the clothes I grew out of.

Happy I have done this so far.

Good luck to the rest.

Glad the fill went well. Keep up the good work! You're doing an amazing job. See, it pays to keep those smaller clothes! LOL

Bummer that it hurt this time. Maybe next time you can ask, or insist, the Dr to do a lidocaine shot. Mine does that and I can't feel it at all. If he will then you might not have to change Dr's. I think most of them don't like to take patients that have already had surgery somewhere else, at least it's that way it is around here.

Quit weighting every day, it will drive you crazy. I know cause I do it too! LOL I understand completly beause I love it when I have lost but then it bums me out when I have not lost or have gained and sometimes can ruin my day. I need to get my hubby to hide my scales. As women we do fluctuate up and down daily and need to remember that as we climb on the scales every day. Try to not let it bother you and don't record it but once a week if you can.

Keep up the good work and next year at this time we can all laugh at all the newbies that are so stressed out like we are now in Bander Hell.

Blessings,

GG

As the weeks past I find myself weighing more and more. I used to read people post about weighing themselves a lot and remember saying that they are crazy why would they do that. Well I apologize to you all, because it is becoming addictive for me. I am not weighing everyday, but it is increasing from the 1x a week that was my original plan. And like most have said when it reflects a loss I'm super excited, but a gain ruins my entire day. I do only record my weigh on Thursday.

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!
