I am getting banded September 13, 2011. I'm a bit nervous, mostly about nausea because for me nausea always leads to vomiting. I will be sure to request an anti-nausea patch and some meds before I leave the hospital.

(I thought I posted this response, but I am brand new to posting and it may have gone into forum never never land!)

Only 2 more days to go !!! Nervous, scared and anxious to mention a few of my feelings. I had no pre-op diet so that in itself will be a shock my first few days. I promised myself I was going to start cutting back on my own but everyday it seemed there was something I needed/wanted before it was too late and I couldn't ever have it again. That is the same way of thinking that got me in this position to begin with. I always had that last supper syndrome. I have bought all the necessary liquid foods I need for when I come home and am fully prepared and motivated to give this my all. The fact that my foot and ankle are broken is going to hold me back from exercising as soon as I would like but I don't want to rush it. I have to take it all slow so I don't throw myself into an MS exacerbationdry.gif

Just had my preop testing done at the hospital and am set for the 19th. I also don't have a preop diet until 2 days before when i can only have Clear Liquids.< /p>

Before today, i could not wait and the surgery date could not come fast enough. Now, after sitting with the nutritionist to go over what i can eat till the surgery and then during the weeks afterwards........i'm really nervous. I question if i'm doing the right thing......can i handle this? Or am i experiencing the presurgery jitters?

I had pre-op testing today and I am set for Friday at 5:00am. I do have to go back Wednesday to redo my CBC test because of a slight irregularity today, but I am optimistic that it will be fine and I will get the ok.

I am getting nervous and excited and will be extremely disappointed if I have to wait longer.

I know what you mean! I've been having those second thoughts too. I think it's just jitters. Maybe knowing there is no going back? I've managed to stay on the low carb diet for right at 2 weeks and surprising lost 7.5lbs so far, but had a really bad day saturday with wanting to stress eat though I didn't. I wondered how I would have acted not knowing that I was having surgery in a week and needed to absolutely follow the plan? Would I have given in to tempation or would I have hung tight?

I think all in all, it's still the right choice, because it will be another tool that I need to help me get through when my willpower will not be so strong.

I think i'll feel better once i'm eating normal foods and not just liquids. Just have to somehow get through it without the carb cravings.

Good luck to you all having surgery this week and upcoming next week! Make sure you have your broths, Vitamins, and Protein Shakes ready and waiting. Also, gas-x or tums to help with the gas, hot water bottle, for any pains. Try to drink 6-8 glasses of Water , have 3 Protein shakes throughout the day, and lots of Soup and don't forget those Vitamin supplements!!!

Glad I'm not the only one with second thoughts. I have been so desperate to have this done for over 8 months and now that it is here I am getting so nervous. I know this is what I want so I wish I could get my heart to agree with my mind. I need this and want it so bad but am really getting scared.

Hello everyone. I've read this forum for several months now and have found ya'll to be a great inspiration. I began my diet today and have followed the rules...a shake for Breakfast, lunch, and dinner, and 3 shake Snacks. To my surprise, I haven't been hungry. Tomorrow may be more of a reality for me though. I like to suggestion of drinking lots of broth. My surgery is September 26. I've had those second thoughts, but always come back to wanting to get it done. I'm settled with this decision as it has been a very long time coming.

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
