On my way to thin, that's great! And Cherie, you definitely should :D

I am not sure how easy it would be to get a referral to go to a civilian dr to have it done for cosmetic purposes but they do it at the Naval hospital here. I am 99% sure I will have to have some work on my stomach, 4 kids and one preg was a twin preg, the stomach is not going to be pretty!

Well my starting weight was 408lb and now and 333lbs and my arms already look like no amount of excerise is going to help so I have no choice but to have cosmetic surgery

I am getting banded on september 13th! i have one main concern. i do not want to have plastic surgery so i am wondering how much exercise [weekly] is needed so that the excess skin comes off. i am 18 years old and weigh 305. please let me know what you think!

Congratulations on your upcoming surgery! I know you are excited. If you don't want plastic surgery, then the more excercise the better. I am partial to Water aerobics and Water walking. You burn the calories and it's easy on the joints when you first start exercising. Hold your stomach in the entire time (easier said than done for me, but I am getting better at it). Buy some water gloves so that when you're in the water and you are working your legs, you can move your arms back and forth (or up and down) and get more resistance so you're working on your arms. Once you're down some, and you think your joints are ready, do more walking, and exercising up in the gym instead of the water. If you're like me, though, you will love the water.

I go to water aerobics and /or water walking 4 nights a week.

Also, make sure that you keep a journal of what you eat. I use Fat Secret - but a lot of folks use My FItness Pal. Both are SmartPhone compatible. You will be surpised how few calories you take in once banded and how many calories you expend. Be sure to eat Protein first, then veggies, then carbs. Small bites. (I am sure you have heard all of this before.)

Best of luck!

Try Water walking, too. More strenuous, but fun. Enjoy your loss ;-)

Wow! My insurance would never pay for plastic surgery. I am on a 6 month wait for my band but I have already lost 35 pounds and the sagging is definitely evident. I do exercise 5 times a week, but I haven't been to a gym yet. I think that will have to be my next step or try to find a trainer or something. Problem is they are expensive. Good luck everyone on your weight loss!

exercise will help with loose skin , but I can only speak for the younger crowd.I was banded at 18, 8 months ago and I'm about 80 pounds down, at first I could see the skin starting to hang at around 40 pounds down, I got a trainer who I work out with 3days a week and I do cardio ALL the other days.Strength training works wonders, my arms were starting to get flabby, but no more.I'm sure my age has ALOT to do with it, just how you see many older mothers who have children and are left with unrepaorable stretch marks and loose skin, but many young mothers who bounce RIGHT back.TIME is on our side girls, why not take advantage? :D

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
