Is there anyone out there in there 30's and 40's who's hoping that significant weigh loss will help them have a baby. I'm 37 and diabetic. I'm not only trying to eliminate my diabetes but after some time has passed I'm hopeful to have a child as well. Late babies are nothing new in my family. My sister had her first at 38, my mom had her last at 36 and had to have her tubes tied so that she wouldn't have any more. I'm very positive about it, I'm just looking for some women in the same boat.

That is one of my hopes. I am 34 and really wanted to be pregnant before 35, but I don't see that happening yet. However, with losing 30 lbs (even with PCOS) my cycle has been regular the past 2 months without being on Metformin.

I have been told that those of us with infertility problems and PCOS (I am one of those in that category, I'll be 30 in February) will start to have regular cycles and may become fertile again with weightloss surgery. This was told to me by my surgeon. Now, my partner has a vasectomy, so I don't think I'll be having babies anytime soon, but I can tell you that my cycles have been completely regular, and I've had two normal ones since getting the surgery (one about three days afterward... yuck), and that's with no metformin or any other aid.

Good luck to you! I hope that all goes well in your Quest to be a mom!!

I'm lucky in the fact that my cycle has always been fairly regular. WIth that I mean it comes every month but sometimes it can go from 21 days to 25 daysetc . I'm just hoping for the best. Plus I absolutely did not want to bring a baby into this world with my diabetes not under control. I'm not going to wreak havoc on a tiny baby because I can't get myself under control.

Hi Alicia

I am not quite 30 but one reason for my decision to have the WLS was because of fertility issues. I am insulin resistant and I have PCOS. I was on Actos( alternative to Metformin) until right after the surgery. The doctor told me not to take it for right now because I am eating better (less Carbs) and my insulin levels are regular without medication because of my new diet and the weight loss. I just read on WebMD.com about PCOS and getting pregnant and the article said that women that lose 5% of the weight have an increased chance of becoming pregnant with PCOS and without complications usually. Now I still need to lose a significant amount of weight before I start planning on getting pregnant, but I hope that losing weight will give me the freedom to have children naturally and without treatments. I hope the best for you :)

I too have PCOS and am weeks away from being one year post surgery. Aside from my 65 pound loss, my other victory is that I have had my period every month for the last 5 months and that has NEVER happened in my adult life....so I am praying that a baby is next to come! Good luck!

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
