No one to take care of me!

Recommended Posts

My surgery is Monday (July 18th) with Dr. Moazzez in Farfax VA. I'm new to the area and all of my family is in NC. My mom is coming up to be with me for the surgery, but has to return to work on that Wednesday. Do you think it's wise for me to travel back to NC with her, so I will at least have family support to look after me during recovery. Granted it's a 5 hour drive after surgery and I would make sure we stopped every hour so I could walk around and stretch. My living situation isn't the quietist, and I would love to have the family support during this first week. There is a bariatric surgeon about 30 minutes away from my hometown, so if something happened I would have access to him.

What you guys think?

Go for it. They say you should be feeling well within a day but if you want to keep yourself around people then by all means. I would do it!

You have to have a O.K. to Travel, so ask your surgeon.

Otherwise you can take care of yourself. It's not going to be hard, and your Dr. is going to want you up anyway.

So you will be fine. I promise you it's not that rough.

I would do what gives you the most comfort. Even though I am married, I considered going "home" for the surgery. And even though my husband has reservations about it, I am very seriously considering having my mom here for the surgery. I love my husband, but sometimes you just want your mommy. I think this may be one of those times.

But ask you doctor before making any decisions.

Seriously after 2 days you will feel not bad at all. The drive might make you feel worst. You will be surprised how fast you recover from this. I would stay home if i were you, the first day is the most important

I don't think you necessarily need to stay with someone. My mom was with me at the hospital and stayed with me a few hours after I got home, then she went home and she did come by a few hours the next day, but I didn't need her or anything. I have two dogs and was able to walk them fine and everything. So if you really want, but I was fine by myself.

I was completely alone after my surgery. While some things are a bit more difficult being alone has huge recovery benefits. It helps you get up and move to get your pain meds, etc. When you have someone around you are more apt to ask them to do it for you - which will prolong your recovery.

I was alone too, and I agree. I would get up, walk to the kitchen table, get out a sugar free pudding, crush my pills, and take them with a small spoon of pudding. I mean the house is yours!

You got the phone, so if you want to talk go for it, same with the Internet.

Don't be so worried about it. I had Dental surgery that was worst. It's really

not all that bad.

There putting something in not taking it out.

I got the idea the poster has roommates and they are'nt very quiet. While I did'nt really need someone to take care of me post surgery if you would feel better being with your family go home. I had no gas pain post op and was only using liquid tylenol for pain (port incision is the most painful). I would be sure to stop hourly and walk around (post surgery you need to be careful of blood clots.). Also put a small pillow (like from the couch) between you and the seat belt.

Thanks everyone for your help! I've decided to stay in my apartment for my recovery! I actually went home for the weekend and realized my mother and I can only be together for about 48 hours tops! LOL

My landlord lives above me and has had some noisy houseguest for the past two weeks, which was my concern about sticking around. But if I'm feeling up to it, I'm sure I'll be walking around, and trying to organize around my place!

Just be sure to have someone you can call on who is only a phone call away if need them. I found it wasn't the physical but the emotional (danged anaesthetic!) that had me wanting people around on day 2/3. Good luck!

You'll do fine.... If you have any doubts, Let your Dr. know that your mother will be with you for a few days, but then will have to return home. You don't know any one in your area yet because you are new. So can you feel free to call if you have any questions at all? He should say Yes !

Also we are always here. So,,, feel free to ask away ! But first I think you will be resting for a Day or 2.

Shirley.

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
