Dumb question

Recommended Posts

Sorry to ask this here but I don't go see the surgeon until wednesday.

Anyways, I was just wondering if it is harmful to the band if I like my foods really spicy or really sour??

Can I possibly cause harm with too much hot sauce??

I haven't had a problem, but I would talk to your doctor too. I can't see how it would hurt the band cause its on the outside of the stomach.

That's not a dumb question at all, I wondered that myself at first.

I don't have a problem with spicy or sour foods, but everyone is different. Try a little bit and see how you feel. It shouldn't hurt the band, but depending how far out you are from surgery you might get a little stomach upset if you haven't eaten those foods in a while. Good luck!

No, there's no way that spicy or sour foods can hurt the band itself as it is on the outside of the stomach. You might possibly give yourself heartburn or whatever if you eat too much of the food. Just take it slow and easy and see how it goes.

I asked my NP about eating spicy foods and drinking.. what if I get a bite of something really hot? She said I could take a SIP if I needed to.. or to take enough Water to rinse my mouth and then spit it out if I was somewhere I could do that.

Enjoy! The band is about controlling portions, not deprivation. :)

I had the same question and was told that while the pouch is smaller it is still part of your stomach. It will no do "damage". She did caution that while spicy or other heavily flavored foods might have been ok pre-surgery, that I should try them slowly to make sure I dont get heartburn or have issues. You just cant predict if your stomach will handle everything the same as before. She definitely said you cant damage anything.

Thank you all for the reassurance! I've been craving lots of spicy and tangy foods but I didn't want to mess anything up. ;)

I dont think that spicy foods will hurt you because they have not hurt me. Since I have had my surgery seems like I have to have hot sauce with everything that I eat. I just love me some hot stuff now. Sweets are too sweet to me. I wonder if anyone has that sensation as well??

-Fefe

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
