2 1/2 yrs after banding & Suddenly can't eat

Recommended Posts

I was banded 2 1/2 yrs ago and am thrilled to say I've lost 110 lbs and exceeded my goal!! I haven't had a fill for 2 years now and suddenly over the past couple of months I can't get food (and often liquids) down - everything gets stuck. I have ended up in the emergency room twice with severe dehydration. I don't understand what would be causing this when I have had no problems eating as long as I follow a good diet and only eat things that I should be eating. Has anyone had a similar situation or does anyone know what might be happening?

Congratulations!

Have you moved to a warmer climate, by any chance? I heard that warmer weather can tighten the band. You may have had it perfect but now it's gotten tighter.

Maybe you ate something that made it swell up because it got irritated or you have an allergy to what you ate ?

You may have gotten something tiny lodged in there partially plugging up the hole...

One girl said that it tightned when she drank cold liquids and loosened when she drank hot...Maybe you should try hot liquids and see if it loosens up a little bit, especially if there IS some sort of food stuck in your stoma. Maybe it will help it come out...

These are things I have read from other posts, but only your band doc will be able to find out with their tests.

Hope your able to find something that helps.

GOOD LUCK!

It sounds like you might need to be checked for a slip and also get a slight unfill. The swelling caused more vomiting and vomiting causes swelling..You will probably never know why your band tightened.

Congratulations on your fantastic wt loss.

Best wishes, Mimi

Congrats on your weight loss! I have had my band for over 2 yrs. and only have lost 70 with 40 to go. All of a sudden I have experienced shortness of breath when I exercise and it goes away when I stop. For 2 years have never had this happen and am finding as well food hard to go down with the painful feeling. I first experienced when I was in Lake Tahoe with high altitude and not sure if that would make a difference. It still happens although not as bad. I thought maybe had something to do with my esaphigus. I am quite tight but for over a yr. has worked well for me. I'm perplexed as to why. Anyone else experiencing same?

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
